ERm, No Sound lol :P

Hi, Lately my comp has being running very very poorly indeed, Lots of Spyware, Random Toolbars installed etc.

So last night, I spent a good hour and a half deleting and uninstalling loadsa stuff from my add/remove programs bit in control panels.

Deleted a hell of alot of stuff, Ran spybot, Deleted a load of spyware, And my comp is running brilliant, Its very fast, no pop ups etc etc.

However, My dad phoned me and said there is no sound on a program he uses (Guitar Tab 5.1), And asked me to investigate.

I've noticed that ive no sound whatsoever, From MSN, I-Tunes, Youtube etc.

When i start I-Tunes it says:

I tunes has detected a problem with your sound configuration, Audio/Video playback may not work properly

I imagine I have delted something I shouldnt have?

sounds like it. could have been the drivers. what sound card it is?

yeah right click my computer and go to device manager

well does it state the device is working properly???. also you can go to the driver tab and then update the driver via windows update.

Just thinking aswell. If you have un installed something important for the auido then the system would have probably created a restore point automatically.

try going to start, prog files, acessories. then i think its called system retore under xp. click restore to a previous point or sommet and have a look on the day you did the uninstalling on the calender and see if there is anything labelled for audio.

try going to start, prog files, acessories. then i think its called system retore under xp. click restore to a previous point or sommet and have a look on the day you did the uninstalling on the calender and see if there is anything labelled for audio.

System restore has never worked nicely for me...

Not really. HD Audio Codec devices appear on Unknown Devices as a PCI Device.

Not really. HD Audio Codec devices appear on Unknown Devices as a PIC Device.

well yeah if it is a PCI card but I have a feeling its onboard and if the PCI hasn't been configured/updated properly it would only show as unknown.

well sonic stage is sony's software for external music devices i.e minidisk so i cant see how that would make you have no sound at all. But this f this is the only audio related thing you have deleted then you never know lol

J2SE is the java application and not sure about mg server

bit stuck now really mate without seing it. can you get some screen shots up. say like from the device manager bit from before. Also in the bottom right of the taskbar near the clock have you got a speaker icon, if so what details come up there (hover over it or right click for properties and playback devices.)

I've got a bizarre keyboard (Microsoft Wireless multimedia 1.1) and to print screen im required to hold something, But cannot see what i have to hold with it :S

The speaker isnt in the taskbar no more

Ah think i have found the problem, But no idea how to fix it.

When i click Sound and Audio Device Properties, All the options are ghosted out and says no audio device?

it looks like you have disbled the playback device (audio)

well thanks for that Bill gates lol. Yes thats what he needs to do but trying to identify what sound / playback device he has on his machine is proving difficult lol.

On sound properties, I have 5 tabs the first 4 (Volume, Sounds, Audio and Voice) have no clickable options as they are all ghosted.
The hardware tab has some clickables, But they are the same options as in the manage devices?

Download lots and try them all? Sounds about as logical as deleting perfectly good drivers in the first place
