The seat isnt entirly finished yet and it WILL look better than that once finished...

Basically, i CBA with this anymore im within 6 weeks of the 182

i need to know whats best to do?

Trade it in (how much will they examine the car)
Sell private??

Opinions

Get it sorted out, advertise it privately, sell it then go 182 hunting. Do not part ex it as you will lose out.

Thanks mate, problem is...

price of new
airbag / seat
tracking and steering wheel adjustment
airbag computer reset
time and effort

what do you think a dealer would give me for this?

  V6 255, 172's, JCW,
If you cant be bothered to minimise your loss.. Just chop it in on the new car and have ya pants taken down fella...

Take it in and se what they say!. You might be upset though, especially when they see the seat. Tracking/geometry etc can be adjusted in their workshop and you'd be very unlucky for them to pick you up on it. Seat though... bit different. Air bag light they would prob do themselves..

  Yozza'd Titanium 182
so in your opinion, what do you recon, i mean yeah i will go and see what i can get for it, lets be honest...

if i can straighten the wheel, put a new alloy on then the only problem is the airbag so do i

a) sow the seat and go in
b) replace the seat and go in
c) replace the seat and get it reset then go in

also i would then have to ask them to find me a 182

Don't ask some place to find you a 182 !! Don't go to places like car craft (or whatever they're called these days)

Get the car sorted out, then go 182 hunting. If you leave it how it is now a stealer will sting you so badly it's un true.

  Yozza'd Titanium 182
lol guess were i got this car from! car craft

mmm thats another downside aswell asking them to find you a car.
im going to have to get it fixed, its going to cost me hundreds

£45 tow truck
£61 new part that was goosed
£50 hours labour
£50 alloy
£50 seat
£60 computer reset
£35 traking

when you look at that is it really worth it?

  V6 255, 172's, JCW,
I wouldnt bother wasting my time trying to re-stitch the seat tbh. Look up a breakers, pref a Renault specialist, and try to pick up the correct seat. You could still take it in as it is and see what they'd offer you, with or without the repairs!

I wouldn't ask them to look for a car either.. makes your buying power slightly weaker. Find the car YOU want.. not just one they've found you. Even if its the best car you've ever seen.. and fall in love with it.. try not to come across 'too' keen!.. lol You'll never knock the price down as far.

fix the clio back to a decent standard then sell it private and then go 182 hunting . you will come across some bargains seat wise . i used to have seats in that pattern sold them for £20 iirc a while back . bargains turn up on here .

Get it sorted yourself, ok it'll cost a few hundred but any stealers will want to take off £500 maybe even a grand if you turn up with it like that.

  Yozza'd Titanium 182
yea suppose, but i thort if you were trading a car in... then they would have to look for one, you cant just sell them a car can you? also i notice that the passenger seatbelt clip

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Renault-clio-seat-belt-Pretensioner-Passenger-side-172_W0QQitemZ300287091672QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item300287091672&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1301%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318

have like snapped, the seat belt still works and clips in tho

They don't help you look for one (and if they do it'll cost you) You go there see you somethnig you like then say i've got this clio, can we do a deal.

If you get them to find you a car, you will get stung, you may aswell lube up now.

You can just sell a car to them yeah, but you'll not be offered much at all.

Try and find a seat cover off a twisted seat - they're super easy to replace. Either that, or just take the cover off, stitch it up and pop it back on. Bingo :)

  Dodgy one
Need a pretensioner and a new control unit for the airbag+ having it recoded = not cheap, If youre doing it properly

  Yozza'd Titanium 182
well, im going to replace the seat and looks like im going to need a new pretensioner to

what do pretensioners do? are they easy to fit? and why do i need one it my seat belt still works?

Not true. If you shop around can find some decent part ex deals at the minute, the car market is so dire that what the dealers offer you at times isnt so bad.

He's still going to get bummed though, especailly if he takes it in how it is now.

  182
If you want to trade it in instead of fixing it up and selling private it might be worth trading as it is, you will lose some money if its not repaired but could spend just as much repairing it in the first place.

Yep agreed, we got a good offer for a 52-reg 1.2 16v Extreme on trade-in that I would have been happy to sell the car privately at. Although another dealer varied by nearly £1000!! (£1400 vs £2350). Takes the hassle out of paying to advertised on Trader etc and having no views or general hassle of people coming round.

I traded my 172 in for the 182. It needed a new exhaust. I'd had a Magnex on, which I removed and sold, then had the old knackered exhaust welded up before I traded it in.

I then traded the 182 in for the Trophy. The 182 needed new rear dampers after 18k hard miles.

Do it yourself on the cheap mate, get the ball joint sorted, leave the alloy as it is, new seat from a breakers and cant you break the airbag bulb or tape it up?

The last bit is a bit underhand, don't forget their's ultimately going to be a new buyer of this car after it's sold/traded in.

Just scrap the alloy - it doesn't look good to see a mangled wheel in boot even if the car is fixed.

Stay away from car dealers.

They will just rip you off.

I would normally say the same but if you can get a good deal they can save a lot of hassle. I bought a 182 for less than some of the higher end private sellers were asking and I got 18 months warranty with a Renault dealer too, trading in a 1.2 16v for what I'd want for it selling privately.

  182 FF
I found my 182 at a specialists and traded my mini in for it, got a decent price. Main dealer might have been different.

Pmsl and you want to drive a 182? I'd get yourself a donor card sorted out first :rasp:

Always sold cars privately, but bought from dealers.

edit: looking at the tread depth on that knackered alloy you need shooting tbh. Looks very low.

What caused the accident? Excess speed and lack of grip?

Well if you cant afford to get it fixed, thats what I would do. The airbags seem to hardly ever work in the clios anyway.

tbh mate ive been reading a few of your threads and you sound like a kn*b tbh. your going to trade the car in. theres going to be a buyer then which will have a dangerous car. get all the stuff sorted first.
on the trade in bit. i whould go hunting for a 182 first when you find one you like trade at that garage. my mate was looking for a r27 went to reno they had one in bolton i think for 14k he looked around and got a minter for alot less.
