Exhaust back-box for PH2. 172

Hi guys

Not really as into the mechnical side as some of you guys so really hoping someone can help me out. My 53 plate Clio has decided that it is time for my exhaust to break (whilst on a dual carriageway, not cool!)

I have taken it to a local garage, who intend to order me a straight replacement from Renault. However, I think that if this one has only lasted for 3 years, might be worth investing in a performance box instead. Are there any good ones for not silly money? For comparisson,they have quoted me £170 including fitting, does that sound about right?

Yeh plus fitting which will take about an hour they say, as the break wans't entirely clean.

Renault ask for £170-£180 for part plus fitting. the part is around £115, then you'll need a mate with ramps.

Cool cheers for the help guys. I think if I had the luxury of time I would get an aftermarket exhaust but as I just need to get back on the road, will just get it from this place. Might be able to wangle a trade discount though on the plus side.

Right, just spoke to the garage again. They reckon that Renault have changed the exhaust design on CS subsequent to my model being produced, from originally an all-in-one piece design, to a two-piece design. Can anyone verify this?

They reckon it is now going to cost £369 inc. VAT and labour to replace the old broken part with the two new pieces. Seems an awful lot to me.

Yeh... is stupid amount for a piece of cast metal! I wouldn't mind if it was an old exhaust but it was only just 3 years old, and annoyingly out of warranty.

Renault wanted £300 for a new OE exhaust for my 172.....comes in one piece from the backbox through to the cat.

I'd still go aftermarket though as it's bound to fall off again.

It broke just behind the back box, think the mounting came loose and pulled it down, and as it scrapped on the floor whilst I was driving it became damaged. The back box needs to be replaced, I just can't see why they can't replace like for like?

My Dad spoke to his mate who is a Renault Parts Manager on my behalf, and they said theoretically they could, but could mean loss of performance, and if the rear box has gone chances are the mid box will be on its way out soon too.

Managed to get a price quote for £270 inc. VAT through my Dad though for back box, mid section and sleeve, so going to see if this garage can match it. Hopefully they can because I can't actually drive back home 50 miles with my car as it is!

And is a custom jobby, so can design the system however you like (noise, looks etc)
