Exhaust blowing @ cat to centre join

  Clio 197
I replaced my system with a milltek cat back a few months ago and I can't stop the blowing from the cat to center pipe joint , I used a new gasket and initially paste but I since changed that to loctite 5920 high temp silicone and it's still blowing ( not as bad)

Any ideas? Do I need to leave the silicone a set time before starting the car or can I do it straight away like I have been doing ?

Thanks

I left my silicone for about 3/4 of an hour after fitting, car untouched... Then started up and kept to low revs.

No idea if this is right, or if heat hardens it, but my thought's were that if it wasn't still aligned correctly then I'd be better letting it harden slightly than start the car and the "blow" push it all out again.

yeah i follow your logic - has it sealed ok?

mine was blowing for ages, original exhaust and the rs192. tried paste, silicone everything. nothing worked. then i decided to take the cat off to have a proper look at it. there was a small crack on the cat where the clamp goes over it and it opened up every time the clamp was tightened. bought a 2nd hand cat for £70 and used some silicone for the join, the blowing has gone away and that must be between 4-6 months ago. sorted.

Im having similar problems with my rs192. I'm very close to taking the car to a custom exhaust place so they can weld a 2 bolt flange on to the exhaust and cat! Why this wasnt done from the factory baffles me!

Sealed fine for about a month. I now have a very minor "whistle" when it's cold, that disappears as soon as the car is up to temp. Think my scorpion expands a fair bit when it's warm!

Edit: Rofl at nearly everyone in this thread having the RS192! Cat weld is always an option!

Are those with the RS192 using the clamps that came with, if so that's your problem. They are suppose to be pretty useless. Get a heavy duty one off ebay.

I really dislike the olive joint on the back end of the 182 cat. cutting it off and welding a straight outlet on solves so many things

+1 that's pretty much essential. Although that's what I went for and it still doesn't fit 100% lol!

I will have a thorough check of my cat when i dismantle it again. I have a 172 so i already have the 2 bolt flange :(
