Exhaust for Cup

  Pink & Blue 182, JDM DC2

My exhaust feels really rough and rattly. Probably due the fact its pretty pants.

Whats available that will:

a) not break the bank

b) not sound or look stupid (i.e too big or too loud)

c) will definately give performance gains.

Thanks.

Si.

{Edit: Would like de-cat/sports cat depending on cost etc}

hear good things about magnex, performance gains will be minimal unless you decat and/or remove the rest of the silencing (LOUD!!)

Thanks jonny, im thinking of getting a de-cat and replacing the whole thing...

No way is that going to be quiet then ;)

Magnex are fairly quiet compared to most, but still produce all the right noises.

Maybe the K Tec hidden one will be for you, but you can be sure its going to be loud.

By the sounds of it you cant avoid being loud. Just remember what happened to dogmaul though, he couldnt take it anymore. All those people thinking he was a bit of a t**t for having a car that sounded like that. lol

had a 172 in at work with the k-tec quiet system and i would say its a bit louder than the magnex.

Still unsure guys... ARGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

Been reading other stories and am now even more confused.

What is wrong with the scorpion system I have had no probs with it lovely sound (burble) and felt more responsive as soon as I had it on there.

I agree that Magnex are nice. But can you deal with their tail pipes??? They are far too large for a clio. Plus your not going to see any real power gains from them.

After saying that I have not idea what to suggest. K-tec with the smallest tailpipe they do.

  Suzuki SV1000S

YEah you need to decide what tail pipe you want first mate, this will limit your options massively, I wanted a single round tailpipe and so the scorpion was the best for ME. But magnex only has oval and twin or you could look at k-tec they have big range or powerflow, but personally didnt like the idea of them.

Sorry couldnt resist - didnt break the bank. Sounds "just right" - nice deep tone; not too loud around town, but when you rev and accelerate you get a nice deep bass tone..... Mmmmmmm. Cat-back, not decat. Youll pay more for that. I reckon for what you want youll have to pay around £500 at least

people say the magnex doesnt really gain you anything but im sure it made mine a little more lively.never rrd it though just to see if it did or not.

If your going to the bother of getting a new exhaust you should really buy the de-cat as well. (only 90£ from MSW)

  E36 323i coupe

Back box £170 fitted - cat back £320 fitted (prices from Bush Tyres in Hull, who now offer a 10 % Cliosport members discount - so £153 for b/b and £288 for c/b).

Dont forget the law if you get a decat... they sound awesome; you get a big increase in power.... BUT if you get stopped by the police, and, for any reason they check over the car, and find there is no catalytic converter, you be in the sh*t big time.

Also according to Renault it invalidates your warrantee - if youre rich and can afford to pay for everything, then great.

I cant, so I didnt go for a de cat - which made me weep, cos mailto:M@thew s">M@thew s sounds AMAZING!

How can you get in deep sh*t? If you fail a road side test all they can do is fine you (60£)and make you take a MOT. As for it invalidating your warrenty, it doesnt if you go in with a fault which was casued by the de-cat you will have to fix it but the warrenty on the whole engine is not voided. After all after the first year they dont cover your exhaust, and it would be very hard for them to prove the de-cat caused any problems (which it wont) Really cant see the point in fitting the magnex if your not de-catting at the same time as you will gain very little.

Also how will the police know you have a de-cat fitted from looking at the car? All you say to them if you fail an emissions test is the cars been running funny and the emissions light has been on for a few days and your going back to the dealer. My janspeed de-cat looks exactly like the sports cat that ktec sells.

Also if your friendly with your local service ppl they wont give a sh*t about your de-cat and if your that worried remove it before it goes into the garage for warrenty work or services.

thats a lot of cash dude, dont know if i can get more than the back box right now?

and i live brighton so will have to find something out tomorrow i guess!!!!

si you live sussex way dont you? i know you only posted yesterday but any ideas for yourself yet? full system would be good for this rolling road tho!

ill enter more lucky dips in the lottery this week.;)

I had the K-Tec Twin 3" fitted to my 172 yesterday, loving it already.

Burbles nicely on tick over, and makes the car feel soo much more responsive.

The twin 3" tailpipes peek out under the bumper and are not too "in your face"

I agree Jay.

Im hoping someone arranges another RR day at PE soon. I ran there last year and would like to see what difference the Magnex has made if any.

Wow, what a response. Well Williams Mech, I live in Kent and so have good access to London places being about 20mins from Dartford Tunnel for example.

Things I like:

Cat-back performance
Magnex Twin-pipe exhaust like Jon1978
Hidden exhaust and smooth arse of Cup
Nice sounding exhaust
Not breaking the bank!

Things I dont like:

Cat-back noise
Bad boy/boy racer image??!!??!!
Stupidly large exhaust thats out of propotion with little hot hatch
182 Exhaust
Spending £500 on something you cant see

How loud is de-cat people?
The magnex system is nice on yours Jon, any performance gains?
Does it solve the 4k rattle?

Thank you all very much.

is a sports cat basically a cat-back or decat???

Cat-back refers to everything from the Cat convertor to the tail pipes sticking out the back.

decat is generally nothing more than a straight through pipe where the cat used to be.

A sports cat is a full fledged Catalitic converter that still gives maximum flow to reduce restrictions. You should still pass an MOT with this on and is perfectly road legal, k-tec claims about 7bhp gain from there sports cat.
