Extra Pipe on Samco Bend Use?

Excuse the probably stupid question but I keep seeing these and have no idea what its for.

What exactly is the extra tube for on this?

Im planning on changing my air filter some time in the near future to a cone filter and I need one of these. But the one I was told I need doesn't have this extra smaller pipe attached.

What's it for and is it needed on a Mk2 Ph1 1.2 engine?

its the oil breather. connects round the back under where the coilpack is.

someone else will have to answer ref the 1.2 sorry

For the oil breather hose on the ph2, can be modified for idle valve on ph1 though.
As for using it on your car it won't be any good as its the wrong size, just get a 90 degree silicone bend off ebay for £10.

Wont be needed on the 1.2, its only for sport models 172/182
