Spotted this tonight when working on the car.

Now, either a pully is dead, causing a rubbing, or it's off a rib on the belt. It looks like the belt has actually meted a little.

Water pump could be shagged, AC migth be ballsed. I won't know until I get it off..... but then it's too late to fix it that evening.

f**king french c**t

Re: Fucked aux belt/pully?

kind of looks like something has been pushing into the belt from the other side. if it was the idler/something else on the flat side, I would have expected it to protrude in, not out.

Re: Fucked aux belt/pully?

There's a recall/technical note on this problem from Renault.

Mine suffered the same problem, it's normally the pivot point on the tensioner siezes, then the belt rubs on the tensioner spring.
New tensioner, idler and aux belt. Mind you it looks like the engine needs some love anyway, looks like it's losing coolant or AC system lubricant

Re: Fucked aux belt/pully?

It's losing neither, which is what has me stumped.

So you think it's rubbing on the spring? When was this recalled, as the auxbelt kit was changed for a genuine item less than 6months asnd 7k ago

mine did something similar when I first got it, but the results didn't look like that (ignore the rusty bit, its the darker line that's of interest):

This is what it did to the tensioner:

Okay so firstly then you need to jump up and go look ay your setup to see if the spring is fouling the belt run. If so take it back to where ever the belt setup was fitted and claim under the 12 months parts and labour warranty it legally comes with.

The only possible problem will be if the tensioner is siezed Renault will most likely say its due to water ingress so claim void.

Re: Fucked aux belt/pully?

Then its more likely the marks on the belt are due to foreign object damage. At the very least I'd do a new belt and make sure the tensioner/idler function

Dunno whether to order a full aux kit just in case its a pully/idler thats fucked.

Will have another look tonight from underneath, see what I can spot

Re: Fucked aux belt/pully?

If the tensioner is functioning (pivot point is moving and no damage to the idler bearing) then I'd just re-belt it

Re: Fucked aux belt/pully?

Can I tell if it's moving just by looking Mick? (ie, will it bounce around on the belt) Or does the tool need to be used

Tug on the belt whilst observing the tensioner

Didn't think of that. It's too early, lol.

I will have a walk up at lunchtime and see what I can see. Cheers for all the advice

Updated photos

Looks like some s**t from the belt has flicked up the tensioner

But the belt is not actually touching the tensioner at all

Now, as you can see here, it seems to be running on the edge of the waterpump pully

My mate reckons that pully is on the wrong way

Here is an IPhone 6 photo. There is more meat on the pully on the engine side than the inner wing side

pully by McPikie, on Flickr

The red line seems to indicate rust/something on the pully. I think this is what has caused the weird s**t on the belt

Basically, I am stumped.

Do I buy a new water pump and pully? If I replace just the belt, this is gonna happen again.

Or has something just flicked up, like a bit of rubber, and been mashed betyween pully and belt, causing this, and if I swap the belt, it will all be fine??

To top it off, here is a video

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uF5VrAu0ZQg

Now, to me, that belt looks to be snaking, ever so slightly, on the alternator pully??
