F7R engine in a valver

Just wondering if anyone out there has shoved a F7R engine under the hood of a valver, or if anyone has tried to mate a valver gearbox to the F7R engine??

Could be looking at a engine conversion as me 172 has had a little accident, more details to follow shortly....

Think the 172 engine is the F4R. F7R is the Williams engine. What have you done to the poor 172 then? If youve bust it, Ill buy your side strips off you!

Ah yeah, i mean the F4R engine - sorry all. Dont wanna say too much about whats happened till its all cleared up :(

Either way if im looking at shoving the engine into a valver im gonna have a fair few bits to sell on etc - ill post em later in the for sale forum so plz dont send me a million posts, thx

Sorry Ryhs but i dont think the side strips survived

yea, why not........

but you might as well drop the whole subframe out, mate it to the valver one and lift it up.........fair bit of work.......but possible.

Wouldnt that be cool. A valver or Willy with a 172 engine. Mmmm......handling and stonking performance. Do it!

A really wanna, a know theres some work involved but if i can find a valver with a spot on chassis then i can turn it into a full beast!!

Thanx 4 the advice ben, mite be a good option - my only worries are matching either the valver gear box to the F4R block, or trying to match the driveshafts from a 172 to the valvers suspension geometry etc...

Also im pretty sure the F4R is physically taller than the engine from a valver... which could cause problems :(

kant the engine backwards a tad more.

Use the 172s box, shafts (send them to reco-prop to get modified if you need them shortened or modified to fit the hub). You might find some stuff out if you do it like if you can fit the 172 shaft and hub to the 16V carrier etc etc.

As for susension geometry, make up some adj top mounts for camber and castor (adapt some existing ones that you can get easy for other cars), track......compare 172,16v and 19 16v lower wishbones etc etc.

Sounds like it could be a right hoot!

Cheers Ben, If i can get away with using a valver gearbox i would like to as it saves me messing with all the standard suspension.

Otherwise ill try to get the driveshafts adapted so it mates to the 172 gearbox and the valver hub carriers etc... theres always more to it than that but were looking for simplicity if we can. :D

what is the actual prob? I havent seen a 172 in great detail.

Are the manifolds causing the prob or what?

Cant you use the P manifolds?

manifold is fine, its quite compact and off great design.

But the inlet manifold which curves over the top does add a few horrific inches to the height, and P manifolds, well........i dont know how you would sove the FBW issue and the actual port mating faces are totally diff.......dont know about the bolt pattern though, ive not seen one in blooming ages!

ill have a gander though tomorrow. but we have no F7P references here as we never sold a car with those engines here.

why not ask this bloke, lookin at his profile i think hes done it already!?

I have a P inlet sitting on top of a 19 parcel shelf in my wee stock room.

Still need to get the exhaust manifold off the head which will be fun.

Forgot about the maniold being ontop.

Saw one with TBs a while back and the engien is plaion ugly without the fannymold.

yes, but converting to TBs would really increase the price of the conversion.

Patty, that guy has not got what you think.

Ive got a couple P manifold lying about, and boy do they take up alot of space and weight tons!.............lol

that cast iron jobbie!!!!!!!!!!!!!

erm..........sorry He-Man.

oh, and yes it is a damn ugly motor....lol

Patty - the Clio Cup race series has been around for ages and they used o run the F7R 2.0 engines from the Williams/Megane 2.0 Phase1 Coupe.

ohhhh i see..... still i couldnt fix one if i tried ;)

your now old.......wish you would make up your mind.......but there is no excuse for a saab..........

Laugh all you can young sir for I shall have a proper Saab, none of this mere 9000i non turbo automatic lazy slow car joke, I shall be getting myself a proper FPT 9000 Carlson 2.3.

Then I shall not only have all the toys of my current one but I shall have over 200 horses as standard which I shall bump up to oh eh about 500bhp.

Then hopefully I shall go so fast the aging process shall be reversed and I shall bear witness to my slippers turning into puma discs before my very eyes.

I think it should fit, but you´ll have two problems to handle (the same I had with K4M)

1. You have to lift the right upper engine mount about 20mm (I did it by using a aluminium block)

2. The original 4 in 1 exhaust manifold is running between subframe and the flor, so that there is not very much space in a ClioA, perhaps it is possible to use a Williams manifold, but I don´t know if it will fit at the cylinder head.

regards

Oliver
