FAO 172 Cup owners who have track prep'd their cars

  200 Cup & DC2
Basically I'm looking for 172 Cup owners who have stripped out their Cups and track prepared them as I would like to quiz you and get some advice. Either post in this thread or add me on MSN mark1107_98@hotmail.com

I'm looking at making this a winter project for the start of the new trackday season next year. It will be used strictly for trackdays, Nordschleife trips and weekend fun.

Even better if there are any owners of such cars near Hertfordshire/Essex/North London who are willing to show me there cars and what they've done would be greatly appreciated.

Helpful/useful companies? I've found K-Tec, Yozzasport so far..

Thanks,

Mark

You got yourself a cup yet fella? Got one for sale, track ready...
Not yet.

Can you give me some info on your car? Would you be prepared to spare an hour one sunday for me to view your car and for you to take me out in it?

Thanks,

Mark

Erm, rough details...

52 plate 172 cup, 57k miles.

Chassis -

Leda fully adjustable coilovers set-up for track use by mark fish motorsport, 15x7 2118's with good yokohama paradas. Cup racer tow eye.

Brakes -

ds2500 brake pads, brembo max discs, braided lines, cup racer brake ducts and deflector plates.

Engine -

angelworks cnc'd manifold, itg panel filter, carbon cannister removed, Prospeed 2.5" track exhaust with decat (cut into bumper). one horn removed.

Interior -

stripped interior (no carpet etc) cobra monaco buckets with sparco harnesses, sparco 383 wheel.

Car is very tidy and clean, doesnt look like a track car at all condition wise.

Bad points -

Needs a service and cambelt changing (aux was done at 36k miles) Small crease in boot floor from reversing into a pillar at 5mph in a carpark. Few stone chips. Crack in front splitter due to low ride height.

Will put it up for sale on here this week i think mate. To complete it just needs a cage really.

Dan,

I'm interested dependant on price.

I see it's de-cat'd do you have the cat? I don't risk running de-cats, my insurance company doesn't touch them. I run a 100 csi sports cat on my Focus ST and still produce 292bhp :D

Not too concerned about the crease in the boot floor as long everything is structurally sound.

Original Speedlines?

Hi,

have got the original cat, its a custom short cat so is pretty easy to fit (172's are notorious for fiddly cats)

Doesnt have the original wheels im afraid, but due to the suspension and brake set-up they wouldnt fit anyway fella.

Has had a full geo set-up and the crease doesnt affect anything. Only minor but worth mentioning.

Car is up for 6k ono.

Thanks Dan. I can't post in your thread as I'm not a member but I'm interested.

Would viewing be available sundays? Work commitments and lack of evening daylight don't allow me to view other times.

Dan,

That would be much appreciated. Sundays are the best day for me. I don't mind travelling across the border into Essex, I should blend in with my Ford ;)

Who do you insure your modified 172 Cups with? My company (Greenlight) will not cover them due to them having no ABS and there have been too many claims on the 172 Cup.

tbh for the mods included , you cant beat the value involved .
but sure someone will comment otherwise .

I'm with Elephant. Found a lot of companies would'nt touch 172 Cups unless you were 25.

FWIW I've driven Dan's (Peperami) Cup on a couple of occasions and its a good 'un. Pulls hard through the gears and the brakes feel great. With some choice mods its great value for money at £6k.

Elephant aren't good with mods. I'm 24, with Greenlight and pay £700 on a 300bhp Focus ST2, I didn't realise until this afternoon that Greenlight have grouped the 172 Cup alongside the VX220T and S2000 as cars that are too high risk to cover full stop no matter your age.

I think I'll give Adrian Flux and A Plan a ring..

That'd be fine mate, he did a fair bit of work before the summer track prepping the car. Ask him how long the brake ducts took... lol
