FAO Milltek owners...

Ditch the centre box!

It's the best thing you could do to the system!

I had my Milltek modified at JP Exhausts (YS's fabricator) yesterday, they replaced the boxed centre section with a straight section of 63.5mm stainless, the same o.d as the Milltek.

So now it's - Manifold > Decat > straight section > rear box. Win.

The sound is a thousand times better! It sounds like a slightly deeper Yozzasport... without the boominess, but with an awesome rasp at the top end, and some lovely pops and bangs on overun! The best of both worlds.

I hammered it past a Boxster S this morning, backed of and it gurgled sh*t loads. The chap caught me at the next junction and gave me the thumbs-up.

£40 + VAT for the work at JP Exhausts too! Bargainous.

I'll get some vids up soon!

Please don't laugh at me but what is the boxed centre section for? If your running this with the decat then no need to change anything for the MOT?

It's for silencing, nothing more. Taking it out changes the tone/volum of the system by loads!

I was surprised, considering it's only a small box, it made a huge difference!

40£!!!!!!! Bargain!

Yep! I was shocked when i went to pay!

Top work too, obviously! :approve:

not as simple as your N/A malarky.

lose all back pressure when the cats off, upto 10bhp.

and that on the streets of salford turner i cannot, i repeat cannot, afford to happen you hear me!?

Aye, i remember you saying.

Sports cat then? ;)

Take delivery of it, then bang the centre section in your car and drive to JP for the work. £47 later, drive home and fit it!

Done.

for all that hassel i might as well buy a yozzasport one - which imo are now overpriced! thats 360 for the zaust + 47.00 for the pipe then + fitting unless i am to do it my self! (the yozza one doenst have a middle box anyway!)

thinking about it - it would still work out cheaper to buy the milltek and then the pipe if you wanted it louder!

they need to make a good quality fitting zaust that cheap with no middle box!!

I have no idea why the 172 exhausts are so expensive to start with....

my escorts pipe was alot more convoluted and larger in length, yet full cat backs start from 200, upto 280ish...

fancy the ktec recessed myself.. do these have a removable middle box too? :)

Sure. JP can remove any boxes for a great price.

heh.. I had a look at my std system yesterday. seems ok, no real rot, must be fairly new. there is a blowing noise tho.

I popped into a garage and they seem to have just smeared a load of exhaust repair paste around the joints.. they didn't charge me tho.

needing ktec recessed but ...lack of funds at the mo!!

always wondered this and I know I may seem totally thick so I admit to being clueless in advance.....

the cat restricts the engine right, so removing it, means less back pressure, less back pressure = more power? is this how it works?

got the impression from somebody before that back pressure is important..

what exactly do you have done? remove one of the back box's isi?

Is it better to have one back box style - eg the KTR ultra performance or doesn;t it matter?

Yep, just the centre box has been removed.

Leaving the two rears, one per exit.

Back pressure is important, especially in forced induction engines.

It just looks the same as this.

I'll get some videos done in the week.

I bet that section costs £5 at the most.

Materials were £9, they told me.

It was a full hour's work too, although by the time i had him look at the mounts and we inspected the work, it was well over an hour... and they charged me £31 + VAT.

Would this bolt onto a standard system or will it be bespoke to the Milltek?

They could do the same process to a standard system, but whether the packing in the rear boxes would take it, i'm not so sure.

Plus, the Milltek is 63.5mm o.d... the standard system is considerably less.

so by having a decat pipe installed, I would lose back pressure?

sorry everyone I know I am being silly.. just want to learn.

how come reducing back pressure via removing the cat restriction gives a power gain then? or do you lose torque?..

...feels a bit thick now...

Correct.

The removal of any restriction, be it cat or silencer boxes will decrease back pressure, resulting in a more free-flowing system.

Although the loss of too much back pressure can be a bad thing, as it effects low-down torque levels, espeically in turbocharged cars IIRC.
