Faulty Renault Clio bonnet catches !!

hello all

i just got a clio 1.2 dynamique 53 plate and just noticed BBC watch dog article on faulty bonnet catch catches.

how do you know if your affected and can it be fixed?

Renault will send you a letter telling you to go to the local dealerships to get it checked.

If your realy worried and don't know the issue then go and ask your dealership nicly if they will check it to placate your fears.

Renault UK get the data from the DVLA.

Take it to the dealers if your not sure what to look for/check and ask them/get them to check. Its the catch get stuck if it not lubricted.

I took my Mk2 172 in for a broken window clip, and when i Returned to pick her up they had changed the old bonnet catch for a brand new one, free of charge.

because of this known fault, i was refused my driving test, the examiner would not get in my car and it was canceled what a piece of n08 cheese!!!!

I had a letter from Renault. When mine went for a service and the fault was already known to them.

did they replace it witha nother type?

They don't always replace it with a new one. Some catches can rust quite badly and those are the ones they get replaced but others aren't as bad and all they do in lubricate it and tell you oil it every so often.

I think more often than not, they just grease it up a bit. Mines not in the best of shapes, and they didn't replace it.

The design is the same.

Refusing the test is fine IMo the car is deemed as dangerous without having it checked why should an examiner test a pupil in a car with a known point which needs checking.

They have to be flat to the bonnet though else they injour pedestrians.

i was then told that for my next test if i take my mot certificate then i can then do my test, now where on the mot test sheet is bonnet catch??? i dont care i got my mot certificate ready for the free test they hav given me this week

why did they change it, was a good idea, harder to work on but still a good idea.
