FF172 (53 reg) - Fitting Goodrich Braided Brake Hoses

  Monaco Ph2 172
Hey people - not sure if this is the right place to post, but need a bit of advice getting some replacement brake hoses fitted.

Bought a set of Goodrich braided brake hoses for my 172 ages ago but when trying to get them fitted at a garage, the mechanic said that they don't fit and that he'd have to fit new brake lines to get them in. He said that the fronts are a little too short and the rears are way too short. Just wondered if there is anything he could have missed or are you supposed to replace the solid lines when changing over to braided hoses...?

I am pretty sure they are the correct set as the pack says Clio 172/182 on the bottom. I think my car is an import, so is there any difference compared to the normal UK spec?

Anyone got any ideas? Thanks in advance! :)

Sounds like the garage may have missunderstood where they fit. The fronts go from the solid line in the arch where the bracket is to the caliper. The rears go from the lines under the car to the axle (not to the calipers).

Heh - yeah - I think you are right. Reckon they must have thought the rears were for the fronts - ie: too short and not known where the rears go. I didn't know to be honest! Will take it back are explain to them. They are a decent garage, but not Renault specialists.

Thanks for the reply - and the pics! :)

no special tools, just need to know how to bleed the braking system and some 4 dot braking fluid.

should the ends of the lines turn i.e to screw them on as my stainless ends are all fixed?

mine are fixed as well. its the end on the car that turns.

on the fronts fit them into the caliper first then to the connector by the arch.
on the rear the parts on the car side should turb allowing them to be done up.
