Fifth Gear - 197 vs Williams

They couldn't have an old "rust box" beating a new, all singing, all dancing 16k+ car.. so it would have been bad to race them round the track ;)
 
god he doesnt half trash it around...

its a shame that it rained and the williams rusted to peices before they could have a proper race...;);) ( oh sorry did i say that out aloud)
 
ps how good a driver is the tiff............Was it me or did the 197 seem to look as comfortable in handling dept as the williams!?

dont get me wrong, he can drive but sadly that wasn;t it.. that was just him in a clio tw@ting it round a track like a a big kid.. i'd like to have seen it go round the track with some real effort..

i hate top gear but atleast they have the sense to put a car round a track after the d1cking about for a real drive..:cool:
 
loved, it made me love clio's even more, think it did justice to the new one, i hated the 197 now i can really see the coolness of it. He is a superb driver
 
we all know what was quicker round cadwell anyway!

dont get me wrong the 197 is a nice car, but the mrk1's have the potential of being so much lighter. new cars suck.

to be honest the 182 trophy's were a fair whack quicker than the 197's that i saw.

maybe just my opinion though....
 
3 wheels on a few occations in a 197...

i doubt he used the h/brake much, even with all that oversteer action.

LMAO twatting it about or not he still controlled the car well......id like to see you virtually side ways round evry corner yet able to pull it back with the ease he did!!!

I know i couldnt!! :cool:
 
Your expectations of fifth gear are far too high - we all know its s**t, so with that in mind, it was quite an entertaining review.
 
According to my sources 5th Gear were not allowed to do a face off because Renault didnt want the humiliation of the 12yo Williams beating there spanking new £16k hot hatch.......Says it all eh
 
Tiff Needel has won races in Formula 1 and World championship Rallying, so please, run him down all you like but he could drive any car quicker than any of you, even stepping in it for the first time. Great video, and it makes me want a Williams, not a 197. Funny how they didn't compare it to a Trophy. Think I know why.

Shame we could step in front of the camera for the first time and present better than him :clown:
 
The williams in the review is the one that reno still have i think. the plate was 001 i think. Its probably the most looked after and perfect williams there is.

I love that car, 197 however na not for me. Even tho it looked great with the recaros

Shame they could'nt test it...I think the willy would of won on a tight track tbh.A bit like a nice m3 and elise having a blast on a track.The M3 is all singing and dancing whilst the elise only has a 1.8cc engine,but somehow it stays glued to the m3

it does well then considering it only displaces 1.8cc's

that's a radio controlled car engine, it must be light. ;)
 
what a driver! i've driven that track a few times and it requires a lot of talent to throw a car around like that.

don't think he won in formula 1 though did he? just had a few races at the back of the field, correct me if i'm wrong.

oh yeah, gutted they didn't show lap times. how disappointing. castle combe is prob one of the tracks where the 197 would compare best against the williams too, being a bit of a power circuit. if it can't beat it there then it won't beat it anywhere.
 
I want a williams too..

was quite amazed by the oversteer on the 197 whether it was meant or not..
I think he was just throwing it around to prove how easy it is to correct, but then not any average joe can drive like him can they!?

001 is a left hand drive car,I think the one in the clip is 002.

didn't see anyone running him or his driving down, just pointing out that he wasn't really testing it for anything more than clowning around.. if he turned up to one of these races and was doing that, he'd get pulled off the track..

its not so much him thats pi55ing me off about the video, but the fact they only saw the car fit for a clowns effort. i that was an older mans sports car (Evo, Scooby, Lambo etc) they would have made more effort to prove its handling and track capabilities..

the clio will get sold to young c*nts like you and me therefore all they needed was to prove if could get sideways to show off in maccy d's car part b4 we stuff it in a hedge. i really do think a conversation like that down before the filming went ahead.. on Top Gear they even went ahead with the GReddy, Nos, HKS stickers to take the pi55, but as said b4, they hit the track for a propper lap and showed what it can really do..

tiff can drive very well but choses to clown around which isn't that great to watch, for the whole piece..
