First Car Project - Clio 172 PH1

I’ll get some pictures on here when i’m next with the car as they are really bad now. They didnt look cross threaded before the car went away but that could be me

The specialist exact words were “Someone’s cross threaded this and just sent it with a gun. It’s really bad”

They are incredibly bad now after he forced them back onto the car. I’m 100% not touching the other side, the top mounts ok so it can be left alone.
Well I don't own a gun.....so unless I managed to go full bore on em with a spanner lol

Well i think i might need to call the specialist tomorrow…

He took NSF one off to ‘look’ at how bad that top mount was off his own back, so i wasn’t charged for the labour. Maybe he’s ruined the threads?

Just when i think i can’t get anymore unlucky with this bloody car.

Atleast this one wasn’t its fault. It may have been a specialist.
I'm sure if I'd of done it, it would of pissed me off and I'd of just bought a new one. I rekkon you could run a die down it though and rethread it

Hopefully mate, unless someone comes along and says it's not possible

I know they're only 12k miles but they're still 10 years old at least, so I'm not sure how they degrade over time?

Possibly they have degraded, maybe seals inside them and what not? Then again, it’s been sat on axle stands for a decent amount of its life so maybe not? Someone will correct me.

To be honest, if i can fix it and it will pass its MOT then it will do for the time being atleast. Much like my attitude with the rest of the car then. I was meant to have it on the road in August.

Mine was parked up for 5 years and one of the front shocks shat itself. They were only a couple of years old when it went in. Shock died on one side and the spring snapped on the other. Only something French can break itself so effectively when sat doing f**k all

As i said i would l, here’s some pictures of the shocker in its current state:

As you can see that is completely ruined, i managed to lift the top part off with my hand and basically 0 force at all. What do we reckon, can that be re-threaded? I have my doubts but i think i’ll give it a go

What is a bit interesting is what it looked like before going off for its gearbox. It doesn’t seem to be anywhere near as bad.

By some miracle it actually started today after being sat for over a week. Genuinely took me by surprise i was expecting some kind of mystery issue.

Then it gave me a new issue. An SRS and SERV light appeared on the dash and a code for an open circuit with the passengers seat airbag. I did have all my stuff and the scanner on the seat so me and my colleagues think that caused it as after that it disappeared. It did also run horribly until i cleared the code but thats the 02 sensor playing up like it has been doing.

The other codes are still there and i was told the IMMO code is likely hinting to the Immobiliser being messed with or disabled. Frankly, that’s an issue for another day.

that exact photo was sent to me by the specialist.

It looked exactly the same here back in August when i got the intake.

Apart from that i have no pictures of it properly before it left my hands to go for its box.

I can’t find any Bilsteins on Autodoc but are they not the 52mm spacing like all the others on there? Which won’t fit my car?

I can’t find any new 54mm shocks apart from the OEM Renault ones or some Koni ones which are a tad expensive. I did read that the OEM ones are NLA but are still listed on some websites. I haven’t confirmed that myself though.

I know OEM Renault are NLA in Aus - doesn't matter if cup/non cup, you cant get them. We have the choice here between Koni's and BC coilovers, unless you fork out to ship KW's or B14's over from Europe. As far as I was able to find a few months ago, there's no correctly spaced aftermarket options from KYB, Sachs, Monroe etc available.

I thought you might have had more luck getting Renault stuff over there, though. Did you try KAM or frogjam etc?

I’ve tried all the parts people on the internet and i can’t find any. Everywhere i’ve looked has them marked out of stock. Apart from on Kam but that’s the place that they are listed but not actually available.

Am I missing something here? The old shocks are fucked, they’ve sat around for a good while, just buy some more and some top mounts and crack on? I also don’t get the obsession with cup shocks?

Bilstein’s are like £38 a pop on autodoc
Link please. Need some for my 182.

I’m definitely running a die down it. What is there to loose?

As for Kam, i found this thread on the forums from March. Ill give them and RPD and email about it too see when/if they have them.
Hi, I'm in the same boat that you, I will like to refresh the suspension on my ph1, unfortunately N/A any original shocks, and I cannot justified the KONI shocks money.

The idea of some used coilovers is quite tempting now. In an ideal world i’d get some new ones but i can’t spend a wholes month wage in one go on this car currently. The Ktec ones seem to be the most readily available used ones. Anyone know what they are like? If i can’t get any or repair mine it’ll have to be some non RS ones.
