First day of my Yozza race system

Ok, so got up at a nice and early 7am, drove and met richy22 about 30 minutes away, we had agreed to swap exhausts as I wanted something a little more rawr?! and richy wanted something a little less rawr! :)
We left the cars with the garage and a couple of hours later all was done with no issues which was a pleasant suprise :star:

So anyway... fitted around 11am, pulled around 11pm, got a lovely £30 fixed penalty for a "defective exhaust" also had to sign another piece of paper which stated I thought my exhaust was louder than the standard system... luckily for me I was stopped by a police vehicles inspector who explained to me that "any aftermarket exhaust system which is louder than the factory standard is illegal", well I know my exhaust is extremely loud but I didn't think this was the case... confirm/deny?

They also had a word about my recessed plate which I know some people on here have gone through MOT's with :( Their main worry was it was 70mm high when it should be 79mm. GOD DAMN :dapprove:

Not 100% On the law of it, others will be, but we got stopped about 8 years ago in a mates punto running a magnex and were told to remove it.

MOT wise, tester can fail anything they deem louder than a standard exhaust.

Recessed plate should not pass an MOT, but tbh, discretion of the tester, in the real world is it doing any harm. Not like a bulging brake pipe, or defective tyre. Hence some slip through the net.

Yeah I dont think this will ever pass an MOT at this noise level but I wasnt ever going to try tbh :)

I thought that as long as an exhaust was under the public tolerance limit (or whatever it's called) it was ok. I think this is about 88db? Could be wrong..

The yozza race is very loud, you're asking for trouble is you press the fun pedal with the police around!

I would take a guess its more than 88db, I had birds falling from the sky behind me. Tbh tho I was hardly gunning it around, but its really loud even at 2-3k

Oh right, well this "vehicle inspector" was sure it wasnt legal, gay. Suppose at the end of the day if they think its causing a racket they are quite within their rights to give me a £30 fine.

Yeah its illegal to have a exhaust louder than the factory one. As Fred said grey area tho as how the hell do they really know how loud every car model is out the factory??

  Lionel Richie
its technically not from what i read in the old legislation, its all to do with CATS from what i interpret, unless i've missed the latest update, i'll pop into VOSA next week though and find out for sure

  Lionel Richie
^exactly, coppers pulled me for no tax in a Gallardo, didn't say a word about the Tubi system (i didn't know about the tax before you say, owner paid anyway!)

I think the fact was I was in a highly populated area and they get alot of complaints about loud cars, so they where just being anal to get me to sod off home as they had nothing better to at 11pm? Also super cars are really loud as standard, or at least some but Clio 172's arnt :)

Never heard of people being done for the exhaust being too lound before, however have heard of lots of people being done for antisocial behaviour because of they are revving the tits off a car with a loud exhaust etc.

be interested to know what the law is on this.

it's technically not allowed to be louder than standard. However!!!.....it's down to them to find out how loud it is as standard ;) and they wont find published figures as there are none, they're by-passing that by asking for an admission

Isnt there something now on the V5 though?

There is plenty of work being done behind the scenes at the moment to try and find a better solution to noise levels on the MOT. A friend of mine supplied his dyno to the motor industry research association to test a standard Ford Focus at road speeds with three exhaust systems - factory, kwik fit type and a 'quality' aftermarket performance system. The idea being to ascertain what percentage increase is deemed acceptable at idle, 4k etc. with a view of implementing this noise test at MOT time. I.E. a worse case decibel figure for every car available in the UK. Although this is not good news for us, they are accepting that performance exhausts are part of life and prepared to accept a higher noise level than standard. No news yet of when this is planned to be part of the MOT - if ever.

gaz is right. Never noticed it before, though have to say those figures look high for the standard system

Aye, play nice but ignorant when they fish. Most won't have a clue.

Heard of this plenty of times when i was on corsasport.co.uk...

The police honestly have nothing better to do, useless thick ba5tards...

Surely thats shite!!! A replacement from Thickfit will be different to the OEM system...

Then again, it doesn't surprise me, the YS is too loud imo!

I think Yozza does say the "race" system is not for road use. It'll say on his website.

My mate had the old Ktec, loud with decat on his 16v. It was the one they took off the shelves a few years ago and it was REALLY, REALLY loud but no one ever said anything to him.

Unlucky.

  Ph 1 172
Just out of interest did they do any tests as I had this a couple of years back with my old car and I had to take me car to get the loudness tested at certain rpm. I don't think there is anything that's blacknand White saying loud exhaust are illegal. Because if this is the case then a 1.2clio with an engine conversion too a 172 will surely be completly illegal as it's louder than when it came out of the factory. Sorry if it's a bit dodgy this message I'm on my mobile

Sounds like wrong place at the wrong time, I'm always pressing the loud pedal coming out of car parks or whatever in built up areas, even at silly o clock and I've never been pulled for it. Obviously mine isn't as loud as a yozza race system though.

Vids of said system? :)
