First time you ever saw a mk1 172 on the road

I can remember a lad living in my town having one of the first 172s out of swansea renault, heard all the hype at the time but did'nt think much of it . I had a vectra gsi estate at the time (1st marriage), i can vividly remember him blowing me away on a short stretch of d/carriageay.

The first time I can remember seeing one was a few weeks ago, ive obviously seen them around before but never paid much notice. I can remember thinking I liked the look of the ph1 more than my ph2...

only really ever started to have an interest in clio sports after i came off a slip road onto a dual carrage way with a 182 behind me at 70, the driver was booting it and i dont think ive ever seen a little car go so fast lol.

Phase 1's.......dont really see them, in all honesty ive seen 3 on the road. Saw my first one a few months ago.

When I went to go look at one for sale (I didn't end up buying that one) about 3 years ago.

I imagine I'd seen one before that, but I wasn't looking out for them or really knew what they were.

Even today I don't see many about, I see mainly 182s!

Can't remember the first time I saw a ph1, but I remember seeing a pearl black ph2 172 for the first time (I must have been about 18-19) and I wanted one there and then, but couldn't afford one or insure one. 5 years later I have one.

For me it was when they first came out, there were about three of them down Southend all parked up by the casino, I guess it was one of the fist cs meets ?? (probably Jas's old car was there etc)
One dude had the letters '172' at the bottom of his reg plate in like foot high letters !

I took down the web addy & joined shortly after.

I paid no real attention to the 172 until I saw the 172 Cup released and got interested.

A mates dad had a Silver Phase Ugly from new and I though nothing of it, things changed when he upgraded to a Mondial Blue Cup. Mates Sister had a brand new Flame Red Phase 2 as well.

I haven't seen many ph-kaks tbh. Saw one the other day mind, with his lights and fogs on at 4pm when it was still bright :nono:
