Fitted my DIY matched and powdercoated inlets today!

  ph1 172
So This is how my engine bay looked at the start of today.
Few pictures of stripping the plenum etc. and dirt on the rocker cover

Cleaned the rocker cover with degreaser and scuffed it up with scotch pads

Masked up the engine bay and painted with VHT silver rattle can.

De-masked and started fitting DIY matched and powdercoated inlets.

Used a bit of ECK on the steel bolts to stop them corroding and seizing the alloy parts.
Check out the safety warnings on the tin

And some pictures of the finished engine bay. Natural light was poor at this point so there a little dark.

2 of my HT leads were a little rusty when I removed them. I inspected the spark plugs and all looked ok. Can anyone shed any light on this?

Yeah, there was a bit of swarf like debry in the 2 spark plug pots in question.

They were changed about 20k ago by a local renault garage.

Id be worried if i found swarf near spark plugs. It might be worth removing them and checking the thread and re torquing them

Looks good though

Of course its safe. I masked up all inlets and breathers etc.

I considered polishing the Renault Sport lettering, but decide it would look tacky

I'm not overly worried. I made sure all open cavities were sealed and blew all the debry out with compressed air.

Just thought someone may know why they are like that.

cheers for the comments:cool:

that is a great way to paint the cam cover. I've wanted to do mine for a while but been put off as I'd want to remove it in order to paint it, but I dont think you can as it houses the bearing caps for the cams?
That is a great way of painting in situ though, did you prime? What sort of paint is it 1k? 2k?

Cheers, yeah it an easy way of painting it without removing it. Well pleased with the results. I just used Silver VHT rattle can paint from Halfords kindly donated by Cuppydean off the forum.
I just masked all the nooks and crannys up and degreased it then scuffed it up with scotch pads and straight on with the VHT. It took to it well.

Do you mean mask the bolts from the paint? If so then no I didn't and wouldn't recommend it, theres no need.
Theres nothing to worry about at all aslong as you mask all the inlets, breathers and sensors up thoroughly and engine bay of course.

I have more pictures. If you like I can email you them?

looks well mate, the vht paint takes very well to metal with minimal prep work, need to tidy up mine abit and make it look fresh
