Fitted my Viper

As the title says fitted my viper IK today, ive had the red parts painted at work the same colour as the car (iceberg silver). It took me about 6hours to fit, as i took the bumper off, nearside headlight out and all the old air box & cold air feeds out. I used a cold air feed from a renault master turbo, as it is ideal with a plastic elbow joint on the end to fix to the bottom grill, its also the perfect lengh. as for the performance you can tell its there it seems more responsive, & sounds just right:devilish:. Its going for a run on the rollers next week. Im going to take some pictures of it tomorrow and post them on here for you lot to see. cheers Paul172

Thanks for posting Paul172. Looking forward to the pics. Can you tell us what the diameter and length of the viper are as I want to compare that with the CDA box Im getting whenever they are back in stock in the UK (been waiting for 4 weeks)

You may want to get your fuelling checked - these things often work too well. A superchip with a custom map will sort things out.

philip, im taking some pics later in the day and ill messure the diameter & length for you.

telford_mike, as i said the cars going for a run on the rollers next week.

Cheers Paul. For info, the CDA is a cylinder 15cm diameter by 16cm long. Inlet and TB pipes are 7cm diameter. Ive been thinking re best way to route the intake pipe to lower front grille. Also thinking about shortening existing TB intake pipe by a couple of inches to get more space and a wider angle on the intake pipe leaving the IK and heading down towards the grille. etc, etc. Anyway Look forward to your pics.

good one, so the original red bits are now silver eh? Cant wait to see your motor in a few weeks, sounds mint.

This all sounds very nice, only wish i had the skills to fit one of these kits myself! :(

Paddy when are you seeing pauls 172 is it at Melbourne!

Wow that looks awesome! It looks like it should be there. I am well impressed. But I must say, I am not to happy about the crotch shot in the 3rd pic! ;)

Paul

Paul,

how did you get the vipers inlet tube through the original inlet support(shown in pic 4) ?

Im sure its alot smaller than 3 inches??

Justin

Jayc it was a perfect fit the way ive took the air feed was the best place to have it IMO. Im going to take some more pics today after work, so youll be able to have a better look, unless your going to the french car show then you can have a look. cheers paul172

Paul, re. dimensions, r u sure? 18inch diameter sounds a bit on the large size. (I know my IKs bigger than yours and all that, but from the pic it looks like its about 9 inch in diameter too - or did you measure the circumference - jeez i hope i can still spell that right, its been a while since school maths)

otherwise looks great, and yes pics of the inlet hose routing would be very nice. So theres some stuff that prevented you from dropping it straight down? Rad pipes I guess? I also have pics from a guy whos made a hole right behind the upper front grille by removing some stuff, so hes got a couple of inches from his IK straight behind the upper grille.

Jayc r u also looking to fit an IK?

Ive already installed a Viper myself. What I couldnt do was rout the inlet tube through the hole(which Paul did) because I found the diamater too small.

Fitted my Viper yesterday and routed the cold feed pipe pretty much straight down to behind the bottom grill. Ill take some pics tonight if you want (and if I remember :D)

Wayne

Yup, I had the same problem, I couldnt fit the pipework I got for mine through that hole cos the pipework was too big, and it has been shown in the past that there are two different diameters in use for these kits, I just happened to get the bigger one which made it more difficult to route it down to the front

Oh and didnt it used to come with foil like ducting cos mine came with a rubberised sort of ducting?

And nice job on the silver btw paul.

Philip, i did messure the circumference sorry:oops: the diameter is 6inch across.

Jayc, the cold air feed pipe ive used is 3inchs and a bit, and the existing hole in the pannel is 3 1/4 inchs wide, the picture is of the rubber end that was on the air feed :- http://erc.qmuc.ac.uk/cliosport/file.php?image=1052759021__DSCF004.jpghttp://erc.qmuc.ac.uk/cliosport/file.php?image=1052759021__DSCF004.jpg
Slugger, I was going to do the same as you and take the cold air feed straight down to the grill but i have got AC so theres pipes in the way
JJ172, My mate polished the rocker cover for me at work. cheers Paul172,

172man why the picture of the cup whats that about?

Cheers paddy i got your PM.

Paul, very good quality pics. The routing through the metal panel is definitely a good option. Also thanks for the measurements. Im in luck as your viper is 9x6 inches whereas the new BMC Im getting (when passion motorsports finally get the b***ard after 4 weeks) is about 6x6 inches so will get more space for the induction pipe. Wayne, Ill wait to see your pics, re straight down routing. Hopefully the lack of aircon pipes will help as you say.

Anybody concerned about getting water (rain/spray/puddles) into the system with the IK feed behind the lower grille?

  S2000

Philip I used to have a BMC kit on my old 172 and the one I had was longer than the viper hmmm

Just dont drive through anything deeper than the bottom grill is my plan hehe

With the viper I got a spray can of oil stuff to spray the filter with before use. Anyone know how much should be used?

W

BMC have produced a new CDA for 172s post July 2001 (mk2s I guess). Its called a CDA SP08 (no less) and is 160mm in length vs the older 200mm CDA. Well thats the blo*dy theory. Ive ordered it 4.5 weeks ago and still waiting !!!!%%%$$&&

Pics of straight-down IK duct route pleeeaaaazzz?

It needs a pretty good squirt. Its the oil that stops the dirt not the filter. Get it wet but not soaking. (I phoned PiperX about this when I got my panel filter).
