Flame Red 172 or CUP

  172 Cup
Been looking to buy a Flame red 172 for a while now considering buying a cup now. Drove a mates 172 cup and must say that it felt very quick....

After opinions here..Is the cup that much faster than the FF???

I dont want to be dissapointed if buy the 172 only to find out that the cup is much faster..............

Only reason why im comparing the two is because there the only 2 cars i want right now.....

No other car has grabbed me right now

Im fairly new, (as in been using this forum for a week) but even i know this! :D and i found out through the use of what is commonly known as the search tool. ;)

through my limited knowledge, the Cup is quicker (full stop). But whether you'd notice day to day is not likely.....

What will come across to you if you'd get the Cup (because on paper its quicker) is that its fairly basic inside and you've paid a fair chunk of money on what effectively is a bog standard clio with a zippy engine.

If your using it as a track project get a Cup but if not get some more toys inside and enjoy the clio a bit more. Also dont worry that a Cup will blitz you off the lights if by some chance you see one?

If you can live without air con then get a cup if you can't then get a trophy.

Or just find a Cup with Climate Control ...

I think another point that swayed me (but not to sure if it applies to 172 owners) is Xeon lights.... also the seats i felt where cr*p in the Cup (no offence) and for the wieght you save and increased response from having a lighter clio i cant see that there would be a difference (day to day, agian who rags their car every day to get peak performance?)

 I do.

I see where you are coming from, stuff like the xenons etc is nice to have. Can't imagine not having them really, and the seats.

LOL i knew someone would put that ;)

I mean i can understand the mentality to owning the quickest model in the range and i love to push mine  , but i cant see how the comprimises made by Cup owners gets repaid when driving down the motorway to work etc or even on a quite B road on Sunday. i'm sure driver skill (or lack of) would cut in first before the ability of the car, hence why i said unless your racing your mate from the traffic lights i wouldnt worry?

btw i love that red looks brillaint when clean

FF172 is the slowest on paper but in real life equates to naff all. The seats in FF are only better due to trim. The cup seats are exactly the same but trimmed in basic fabric.

I would get FF if you prefer comfort when sat in your car ie; hot summers, or cup if you dont give a toss about a few more luxurys. Cup handles better than FF172 as it has wider track and different springs and dampers.

sorry but not dude just currently having my engine cover sprayed black and flame red along with a polished block and polished strut.

maybe 5 yrs :)

5 years your aving a laugh mate!! lol

i might be broke with no money by then....

Fair enough ill just keep looking, if you come accross any for sale let me know please

it would be worth the wait as it has only got 25k at the mo and by then it will be the ultimate collector to have and love :)

depends what you're after , power over looks , you could always make your car look better and go faster too ....... so i'd go for flame red 172 .

flame red,

better colour
hardly any difference
probs even get one for cheaper.. mine was £5.5k (38k miles)
easier to resale as it has all the toys.. as the next buyer will want more gadgets for money.
abs + climate. nice to have
.5sec slower ( but throw away my spare wheel and 2 weeks on a treadmil and its even)

get the flame red.
