Flame red ph1 172 {take 2}

Car  Rb 182
Though I'd best start a project thread for my new flamer. This is now my second ph1 flamer, and the second flamer i've bought off my close friend Djw John. After John had it, this car was sold to Yeecup who enjoyed it untill the belt slipped and destroyed 14 of the valves. Confirmed by SWR the cost to repair it outweighed the cost of the car so John bought it back. It all gets a little hazzy to how I now own it but in short i swapped this flamer for my silver track car (Chav). I retained the engine for this one and John could do what he pleased with the chav. It was the rapidly stripped before Johns wife noticed the missing cash from the "holiday fund".

Still with me??

Good.

Pictures of project chav can be found here:

It arrived a nice whole working (less the engine) car at my friends farm, it was duly stripped and the wheels sold on. I really do have too many wheels for clios and i hope i've made the right choice with the wheels, more on that later.

A few days later i had a nice running flamer. I also ruined it by putting some mismatching wheels on as i seem to do to all of my cars. I also changed my first part of the car and went back to Ph1 side strips.

I've not really done to much to it yet, the overall plan is to partially strip it and use it as a fastroad/daily/knockhill/because race car car, it wont be as stripped as chav, that got to the stage that i hated driving it, so ill be keeping the carpet in this one.

I've got a pile of bits to get doing on this one, but here's a few pics to bring everyone up to date.

Got some roof bars, hoping to be able to stick my track wheels on them??

I'm in the middle of rebuilding a set of Fk konigsports for it, but this is how it looks just now. Riding on some 15" steels and some 14" steels on the back, rocking some -60mm springs till i refurb the Fk's.

Now the wheels. I could have kept the Oz's but i didn't just want a carbon copy of my last flamer so i've decide to do somthing a little different.

Bought these

To be fitted to these, freshly done at the wheel specialist in Edinburgh.

I hope that brings everyone up to date with flamer2. Much more to come on this, but as per usual it'll be on a budget. :p

C+C welcome.

The Fk's, these bloody Fk's. I'd could easily bin them right now, but ill keep at it.

I removed these from my partners 172

Thread: http://www.cliosport.net/forum/showthread.php?632428-Another-one-to-add-to-the-fleet

These are seized in pretty much every way they could be. If they wernt konigsports i'd probably just scrapped them

As soon as i went to remove the rear platforms the bolts snapped. Arse. But at least they were off.

Oil, heat, more oil, a little more heat, but the rings still wouldnt budge. But then they did. With the hacksaw.

That was that problem sorted, but still the bolts were in the bottom, got my boss involved and with some heat, oil, welding, heat, swearing they looked like this.

They eventually came out after that. Bloody mission. Still had the fronts to do.

They looked much the same.

After repeating the same process for the rears on the front i managed to get the rings off. They are now sitting all washed ready for another blast on the brush wheel before paint. New rings are in the process of being ordered, but having a bit of a German/Scottish issue.

Feels weird looking at my old car, like seeing an ex with a new bloke. Lol. Love the turbines good choice. I'm off to swr tomorrow to get some bits fitted to my new ph1 to erase the memories of the last time I was there.

They're f**ked lol.

Yup!

Surprised the suspension is saveable, fk'd

Everything is saveable, just gotta get some time and effort invested into them

4 years old them coilovers :rasp:

this is what they use to look like lol :quiet:

And now look at them. I wouldnt pay £50 for them in the state they are in now.

I know exactly what you mean, everytime i see john pull into the street in the other flamer. I know it looks a bit s**t now, but she will be good again. Just a little work in progress.

Wheel + Tyre choice is definatley a winner. This reminds me i need to clean my coilovers up before they end up looking like yours lol

Cheers Wayne, the pe2's just own in the wet. If the costco 20% off offer comes on again ill be looking for another set for my wet track tyres.

Coming along nicely mate! Ph1 love x

Ph1 <3 right back Russ

Looking forward to seeing the wheels on it.

Same! I've never had something and never used it straight away. The suspension will be in bits soon and the trackings that far out that it would ruin the tyres inside a week. Should be on before the snow. :p

Wheels should look Dave, i take it you got the inlets after CSS? :)

Dan, wrong DJW member, John bought your inlets.

Better update this:

Swapped out to a set of Ph1 lights, as i keep saying I'm really not a fan of mixing the Ph1/2 bits around so back to all red.

I've also now fitted my turbines, its caused a 50/50 split it seems into the love it/hate it camps but i love it and as stated i didnt want this one being a carbon copy of Y534.

It really needs a good clean and some more lows to pull it off i think. On that note, my coilovers are coming on slowly.

I recived new rings from Fk (Around 99euros if anyone needs any). Still not put the units back together as of yet though.

And thats about that really. Fitted my bucket seats and removed the rear seats (No pics) and started collecting a few bits for the next round of mods.

After the Pfc track day at Knockhill I'll be aiming to get my coliovers on and the exhaust modified to fit, then get started on the inside.

One thing at a time though ;)

C + C welcome, bar Gary Maher who's basically cyber bullying me over my wheels.

lmfao @ fat boy cyber bullying you. looks good man, colour you doing the cage?

I'm really bad at keeping these up to date:

Did Knockhill PFC day 16th sept.

Car went great throughout the day, weather was shocking, had 1 dry session the whole day.

Nothing much has changed from the track day, swapped the washer jets for some spray style ones and fitted some fog light covers. I fully intend to make up some ducting for brake cold air feeds, but at the moment all they were doing was letting water into my horn. a few quid saw the problem sorted till i get the finger out. (Fogs were sold on a few weeks back)

A few things in the pipeline but nothing drastic will be changing till after the track day at the end of October.

21/10/10 Knockhill hot hatch day

Popped up to this with the rest of the Clio guys (and team Maher), managed a whole two sessions before i had to park it up for the day. Looks like the bottom alternator bolt has came loose and the top part of the alternator has snapped off. Was pretty pissed off on the day, but Djw John took me out a few pass runs and also let me take 2 of his sessions, very kind of him.

Only a few pics,

Looking good out on track though.

flamerontrackoct2012.webp

Got a fair few things to do to it whilst its off the road. Stupid trackdays :p

Sucks about the alternator. Time for a cup setup/aircon delete?

Car looks very nice on track :)

It was a PITA on the day but over it now. Got a cup alt set up on Sunday there but not had a chance to fit it up as of yet. Hoping to get it on over the weekend maybe?

Today saw the Cup alternator set up fitted, you dont half strip out a lot of stuff to fit it in, i really was surprised. Its not the cleanest but it'll do the job just now.

Put my coilovers on mid week, set them a little too low at first.

A bit better but need to adjust them a little more at the front to get it sitting perfect, the back will probably be left as is.

E075977A-18FB-4FDD-B17C-D927F57AE848-158-0000000AEA0B7422.webp

Thats that, waiting in some Eibach camber bolts ordering themselves and after that I'll get the tracking all set up.

4x4 stance for winter? Did you have to strip out all the air con to fit the cup set up?
Na it'll still be pretty low for winter. The cup set up was always in the plans when we swapped the engine in we removed the aircon rad and pipes but left the pump in place. The pump gets removed when you put the cup set up in along with some bracing, the auto tensioner etc. The last part to fit is the 1.2 blower that's in the garage.

In my opinion, everything you've done to the car (with the exception of the alloys, love turbines) has made it look worse. I think most people prefer ph2 rear lights to ph1 but if you wanted all red I can see where you're coming from. What I cannot comprehend is why you would de-colour code it?! Looked much better with ph2 side strips! You could've atleast cc'd the ph1 side strips if you do have a jihad against ph2 bits on a ph1
