For sale section and full fat membership

Hello!

Quick question regarding for sale section - I am on the hunt for an exhaust for my 182 along with some other parts etc. My search is currently limited to eBay etc.

How active is the parts for sale section? Its naturally hard to gauge such things without getting a peak inside first. No idea how long I will keep the car - will I be wasting £12 by signing up just for this area?

I am not sure you should worry about “wasting” £12 on membership as there are other benefits including technical advice and the ability to sell your car on the forum.
But to answer your question yes the parts for sale section is active, l recently bought a 182 and requests on the parts wanted forum have found most of the parts l needed.

Believe me when I say that some very inactive forums exist and spending even a small amount of money on soothing and not making good use of it is still a waste.

Hell I don't even own a clio anymore (most in here dont..) but still renew every year.

The great thing about BMW is they maintain parts availability for their older models right back to the 1980’s

None of this French/ltalian car manufacturers policy where once your car has been out of production for ten years, forget it.

Fortunately I haven't needed a trip to the Renault dealership yet to buy bits however I have seen that quite a few parts are either discontinued/out of production or need to be ordered from France. I agree with the BMW stuff though, in that I can still walk into a dealership and buy bits for my E36 or E46 with minimal fuss. However their pricing is just criminal for some parts!!!

The thing I'm loving so far with the little 182 is that decent parts cost peanuts by comparison, upgrade parts also don't seem to have the same 'M' tax which is applied to any slightly fun beemer and there are a ton of specialist part suppliers for the clio still which is fantastic

So far its only broken down a couple of times during my two weeks of ownership, however I feel that I've found the right pool of people and resource to help ?.

I needed another car pretty quickly as my current car needs lots of work and tbh I really wanted to do a mini restoration on it and take my time. So options were fix another old car I have (328i which has been 'resting' for several years) which looks like a pain in the arse or buy a temporary car to do daily duties.... then I got the better of my self and saw a very badly advertised 182 on ebay with 20mins to go, popped £20 on top of then current price not expecting to win and much to my surprise (girlfriends dismay) I had won another car.... Now have dreams of track day, commutery thing happening. Intentions are now (I think) to keep the car for quite a while and have as much fun as possible with it.

Won the car for £1000, arrived expecting the worst and it turns out it has all the cup packs, cd changer under seat and only 73K. A dent in the rear quarter which is an easy repair for a good dent man (happening in a few weeks I hope!). It has an absolutely massive stack of paper work and has been serviced since new every year without fail. Current owner knew nothing about the car as said no cam belt/aux change had been done, didn't know what cup packs were. Turns out cam/aux were done 3 years and 20k ago with lots of paperwork to prove (honestly don't think he read a thing).

I think the chap was selling due to an engine management light which he clearly turned off before I arrived and MOT end of this month. Due to it being a bit of a bargain (?) and pretty clean I really don't mind spending time and money on it to make it as minty as possible. The post cat lambda has failed, not even switching - two new sensor on the way, hoping its not a wiring fault.

There ends most of what I know about Clio 182's for the moment, all in all I'm happy. Note slightly wonky exhaust and unfortunate number plate.

Sounds like you got lucky with that ebay bid! Wonky exhaust is normal for a 182 that hasn't had its owner beneath it for a few hours. Reg is a bit chavvy though. Welcome to clio life ?

I doubt that Mr Dent will be able to fix that rear panel. If you took it in to a body shop it could cost £500+
I sold a 2007 Polo (value £2,000) it was mint apart from a minor impact on the front corner.
Fully useable, passed MOT. It went for £400.

Yes, totally agree regarding blunt description with poor pics actually I usually look out for adverts like this as you can almost guarantee a bargain. I had familiarised myself with the standard array of issues these cars have before traveling and basically bought upon mileage alone - I knew that with a little work I could at least get back my money if it was a lemon.

Very quick test drive to ensure gearbox was fine and it was a done deal. Interior is very clean too which was a nice surprise. I had already mentally prepared for the need to do the cam belt etc so anything over this was a bonus. In fact I think the worst thing about the car is that it only came with one key!

Dent is very repairable, I've done a little more to sort it without damaging paint - however I suspect I will end up spraying the rear quarter and then clear coating the whole rear panel to achieve a good result - I've done a lot of spray work in the past and have restored several cars over the years and the panel damage on this is a very easy repair - even easier if I was willing to skip straightening it out first and going directly for a tub of filler (which I'm not)! Good pics of damage (where you can actually see it properly) to follow when I hopefully get a little project thread together.

Nice one Rob, you won't regret your decision! It looks properly tidy as well, I'm pretty sure 182 exhausts came out of the factory like that . Without seeing a picture I thought you'd got bargain but now after seeing it I really do think you have a bargain. Get the bodywork fixed properly and do all the niggles and you've got a car that's probably worth £2500. You lucky sod! Be very careful with the parts for sale forum, as said above it can get addictive especially as most bits are well priced.

Always reassuring to hear, not knowing much about them before bidding I was worried about buying a lemon by mistake - I think for me I am not hoping to make any money from it however it does give me confidence to spend a grand or so making it nice knowing that I will hopefully get that money back should I ever sell.

Doesn’t look like he needs many parts looking at it.
Being able to do bodywork helps massively as the repair cost reduces to the cost of paint and filler.
