Been a bit since I've updated this but I've had a couple of awkward jobs to do on the car lately, all come with in the past week or so too, so because I wasn't sure if I'd make the Donnington day I've had to cancel it. Pretty gutted really.
1st thing to go was the manifold gasket. Blew it apart properly lol
as you can imagine it was blowing like mad.
Job turned in to a nightmare quite quickly when the allen key snapped inside one of the manifold to turbo bolts
Spent ages trying to fish the piece of allen key out of the head of the bolt to no avail, so I used a bolt extractor which just snapped the entire head off
and even then the piece of allen key still wouldn't come out lol
So with the manifold now off I tried a smaller bolt extractor to take the rest of the bolt out and it snapped again but recessed in to the turbo housing, leaving me no choice to drill it out. Due to the bolts being high tensile it took a long time to drill and several sharpens of the drill bit. Once I'd removed the rest of the bolt I decided to convert to nut and stud instead to save the mither of snapped bolts should the manifold need to come off again.
Few days later I found a large puddle on the drive and an empty coolant header tank and after a bit of investigation I thought it was the water pump.
So off it came so I could take it down to SP water pumps in Warrington (Turned it around in a couple of hours)
Alarmingly though the water pump housing had corroded inside, leaving it extremely pitted.
Not realising it was going to be an issue later on I ignored it and refitted my newly refurbed water pump
Bolted everything back up and the leak was still apparent, as it turned out, the actual housing had a tiny pin hole in it and was spraying coolant down the back of the housing on the block and down between the air-con pump and oil sump.
Fortunately a new housing was for sale on eBay, very rare to see these for sale and never seen one for sale on eBay anyway. It arrived this afternoon.
and bolted on
After bolting everything else back on and bleeding the system there's no more leaks apparent thankfully. So fingers crossed nothing else breaks before I'm due at Oulton Park again on the 14th November.
