sorry if this is a repost!

been watching a few video's on youtube of the american's attempt at building a ' eco ' engine similar to the euro veriant we have.

as much to petrol heads delight, 6 cylinders NOT 3 ;)

yes i have some video's missing but they are'nt hard to find.

find it really amazing that this engine can withstand such abuse.
' smaller ' engines seem to be the future, BUT that doesnt mean more cylinders will be vanished it seems

so what do we think? have the yanks built something worth while or just another engine built to keep manufacturing laws all good?

3.5 litre v6 turbo, whats not to like?

Having any new engine released without a turbo is pretty silly given how well they work TBH, better economy, better performance, and lighter, its a bit of a no brainer really IMHO

I'd quite like to see them doing a 2.0 v6 based on 2 of the 1.0 3 cylinder lumps.

totally agree, im sure in the next few years, we will see the likes of new focus RS's to encorperate ( sp ) a 2.0 V6 made from / based on the tinny 1.0 engines. HOPEFULLY they will twin turbo the lump.

TBH i very much doubt that car manufactures will develope non turbo'd engines in the future. as you have said clearly chip, better everything tbh!

have to laugh at the offroad truck one tho as the team thought the truck had something wrong when it hardly took anymore fuel to fill up!

just goes to show what the previous engines ford have done are like in terms to this new eddition

i have to say, the little 1.0 lump is growing on me, after having a test drive in one this week ( focus titanium 125ps veriant )

goes a dam site better than my dCi to say the least.

just a shame i dont like the appearance of most of the new ford range. i'd more than be happy to have an F150 yank tank tho

Evidently there is a replacement for displacement . All ford has to do now is convince the rednecks!

I have yet to see an 8000bhp top fuel 1.0 3 cylinder lump...

True, but with the right mechanical components that HP figure could be made with forced induction and lower displacement . Saying that I prefer driving my 172 to my golf turbo even though the golf has 50% more power.

I think that with anything resembling a normal road fuel, about 1bhp per cc is pretty much the limit no matter what you do, and only half that to be anything like economical still.
