iv never lost the back, but loose the front loads of times in the wet
They handle just fine in the wet, but the grip's not too good at the back if you unbalance the car.
What happened to you sounds just like what happened to me here...
Only, that was all my fault. Rippled surface on the corner contributing to understeer, vehicle approaching, lift of the throttle + more steering lock and round it came.
Could it have been a manhole cover? Hit one of those on a corner when the car's loaded and it's like hitting a patch of ice.
So the title should read "172s handle better than Astra GTEs"?
No car handles in the wet...

Have a word...If it's wet why would you bother...Some people really do amaze me.

it's always f'in wet!
ice is something that concerns me, water?! not really
Yeah, think i would checkin the damage out at this moment in time if it wasn't for the ABS.
There fine I think there great much better than most tyres. As tyres go contis are the best all round IMO.Are conti's a bad tyre in the wet?
Still amazes me how I can just point and go in the thing, think I need a trackday to really find out where it's limits are in the proper environment, doing this on the road really isn't the best place
Big empty wide roads or skid pans are the best track days arn't ideal IMO most corners you cannot test on.
That happened to me on Friday. Going round a sweeping left-hander on a DC in the right-hand lane about to take over two cars in the left-hand lane when suddenly the guy in the left-hand lane felt it was a good idea to pull out and cut me up. Queue a few fish tails - never really felt I was going to lose it though, I had a worse one a few months back, which gave me confidence in the car.can anyone say: ''lift off over steer''??
You can't expect the unexpected.

Been lovely for the last month in Abd...Just cold... Very cold.
You can't expect the unexpected.
Yes you can. Defensive driving means you drive as though everyone else will drive into you, and you expect oil slicks and manhole covers. I'm not saying I'm a driving god. But part of being a 'safe' driver is expecting the unexpected. That's why old farts like me with full protected no-claims pay peanuts to insure our cars :approve:

Fully comp £400 on a 182 says he's correct :approve:
With Roy on this one the 182 seems to have bucket loads of grip in the wet, very very easy to push on in the wet, I am able to drive much quicker than my old 205 or 309 GTi, but knowing what they where like when you did get carried away and what happens when the grip is broken and your talent does run out - it's not worth it.
