Right before i get the "use google" comment, i have and i am aware there are loads of these free html editors :)

My question is though what's the best/most simple one to download? Can anyone recommend any?

I know dream weaver is a really good programme but im afraid im not that advanced and find it really hard to use :( ( And its not free otherwise id have got that and learnt!)

All i want it for is simple HTML page layouts. Possibly some flash thrown in there if possible/my mind can cope with the complexity!

Any recommendations will be greatly accepted!

If Dreamweaver is too hard, just use MS word and save as HTML.

It gives nasty coding and you are limited as to what you can do, but to create a simple webpage, it is just like making a word doc.

note pad is abit too basic... As for dreamweaver... its not that its too hard thinking aobut it... its the fact its a fortune. Word isn't really an option as the page looks fook all like what you made it as when you upload it. Any more suggestions?

What is it you need doing Luke? Might be able to help out a bit.

Last I heard Dreamweaver adds a load of unnecessary information into your code anyway, making the pages load a bit slower, so I wouldn't use that anyway. Although I might be talking rubbish there, I dunno.

Don't really know what else to suggest really.. always used a Notepad/Firefox/W3 Validator combo myself.

Basically its for an online Personal development portfolio for university... ~They give you templates etc etc but there's also an option to create your own aswell... So i thought id jazz mine up abit and thought it would be a good oppourtunity to learn abit more about html! I know the basics but its just a right piss about getting stuff aligned how you want it etc on notepad

Ah right fair enough. Notepad aint too bad, you've just got to plan what you're doing a bit more. I suppose if there are better methods available you may as well use them, but if it's only the one page you're doing either way would do the job.

I mainly just mess around with it. Currently setting up my own site.
There's a few half empty pages, including the index page, and I've kept it quite basic, but the overall layout is kinda set up. If you want any help at any point I don't mind trying. :)

I use dreamweaver and or notepad to make/edit websites that i have made..
I have made these sites:
http://www.platinumexecutivecars.com/ - for a local taxi company
http://www.darknightsociety.co.uk/ - for my old airsoft team
http://www.saxonetwork.co.uk/ - started to make this, but then got bored :p

If you are looking to learn basic codes there are loads of guides and tutorials online.. i have learnt all of my php coding and the use of includes just from tutorials and hours of practice...

I would thoroughly recommend the website: www.htmlbasix.com for some tutorials and some basic code generators if you are unsure how to code it for yourself..

Hope that helps!

Lol, I guess it's one of the more positive side effects of putting off doing uni work. There's a few fancy things set up that I can't take the credit for like Lightbox for the images and the RSS feed for the photos page, but yeah the rest is done using notepad.

Was gonna try and find you some sites, but it would appear Alex has beaten me to it. :approve:

Like he says it mainly just practice, you get used to doing stuff. I started out on MySpace of all places.

dreamweaver does have the benefit of a design view so you can easily make a website without knowing much about html coding. obviously it does help though.

have a look at www.tutorialized.com as well mate
i have just started redoing my website, here are some still as i havent uploaded it yet as its not finished.

cheers mate, most of the design was done in Photoshop first then the little icons had rollover animations added in Fireworks, then the site was put together in dreamweaver.
unlike notepad or something that just shows the code you can see all the images which is easier to adjust the layout etc

use dreamweaver in code mode. as above, you can always have a look at it in design mode or split screen just to see whats going on, just dont use it to design a website in design mode.

I use dreamweaver as I find it good to manage my sites (and I have a LOT of them) and it is also easy to write html/css/php/javascript and see what is going off with nicely coloured text.

Notepad ++ also does a nice job with the coloured text. Makes it easier to read the code than normal notepad I find.

This place always has people who can help you out if you get stuck so just experiment and when you get stuck, give people here a shout.
