Friend got shunted in his clio sport 172

Car  Renault Clio MK4 RS
Hey all,

Lastnight i was driving and came accross a guy diverting people. Me being nosey and all that asked what had happened and he said theres been a crash. I asked what cars were involved and he said a clio and a people carrier. I asked out of presumption was it a silver sport and he said yeah it is. I said it could be my friend so he let me through. Arriving at the crash scene which had happened minutes before it did happen to be my friend and had been shunted whilst waiting at a zebra crossing by a guy in a people carrier who must not of been paying attention. Thankfully noone was hurt but my friend was in pretty big shock and shook up from it which is to be expected.

Anyways heres a picture of his car that he has had for not even 2 weeks and cost him £1600 and just had belts done with FSH and is really a minter of a car. Well was a minter anyways, Anyone think its going to be a write off? The picture doesnt show it at its worst as the boot was much further pushed in and couldnt be opened.

Yea that's a write off. Best of buying back through insurance and selling engine with receipts of belt change etc...

Surely he must have a sore neck?? That looks a fair old thump.

(And it's definitely a write off, no doubt about it)

100% write off... Mine was 10% of the damage, and was worth £2k, and they considered writing that off. This has no chance :( RIP

The guy in the people carrier said he was going 30mph? Highly doubt that! And he was a bit sore and winded but he asked me when i pulled up.. is it bad jordan tell me and i was like.. well errrr have you got anything expensive in the boot and he said subs etc and i said id check them and couldnt get the boot open and it was really far into the boot. The thump in the back made the cd player end up on the rear seat! Shame to see it go but i have told him to buy it and then break and sell it but he said he would happily put 1500 into it to make it right :|

Write off all day long...

And I wouldnt even entertain fixing it, break it for parts maybe if he has time/space, if not get another. Its a silver 172, it wont be hard to replace.

I would have said I couldn't feel my legs etc and demanded to be airlifted :o ,would help my claim.
Nasty 'shunt' that!

Yeah i said if i was him not to repair but he loved it and was a minter for the price. I said if he can buy for cheap he could sell the seats for easily 100-150. Front bumper etc for 150-200 and wheels for 150 and could easily make his money back :P

That's bad!! My fiesta was wrote off in November with about 15% of that damage!! Definite write off!

Get Carbon Maniac to sell that for you, he'll do you a good deal for it. Your mate must be gutted having it taken away from him so soon after buying it.

30mph collision speed looks about right tbh.

bad luck there mate , this one must be worth 2k with less panel damage .

This happened to me in december with similar damage to my car, was a write off! I Know how your mate feels, gutted for him. I hope he gets a decent pay out :)

The floor and everything will be bent in that, defo write off, get the insurance claim in, followed my the inevitable whiplash claim!

ahh bad times :( hope your friend is okay

as everyone else has said definite write off unfortunately :( would probably be damn near impossible to repair.. and even if you could it would be a waste of money.. would never drive/look the same after and you can pick these up in good nick for little money nowadays

best off getting another car from the payout and if your friend was unfortunate enough to have been hurt and have any personal injury claim to be made then when you get that through add your funds together and get something truely awesome.

thats what im going through at the moment..!

whoever suggested faking to get airlifted to hospital I seriously hope you're 'joking' cause that'd be pretty awful thing to do..

yep shes going to be wrote off, thats tail gate obviously and back panel, and boot floor and it would have pulled the qtr round slightly.. its also very close to your chassis end so i wouldent be surprised if its squashed the leg or pulled it, good chance its creased up to the backseat if you took the flooring out to look, i would say look for a new one if he can see if he can get the advert of it or where he bought it or has an invoice if its a garage, since its less then 2 weeks old they might give him back what he paid but thats a gamble really...

He bought it off a friend i think as they needed to sell quick so he got it at a bargain price. Unsure what hes doing yet he said he needs to wait and find out what the insurance say but i can tell its going to be a write off. Hes just properly gutted about it as he loved it even though it was 2 weeks of owning one but he said he is definitely going to get another!

He might end up getting a fair price for it then hopefully if he bought it cheapish.
Whatever you do, you need to talk this repairing idea out of his head if he still wants to, it will only end in tears.

yeah i am trying to! i said if he should do anything. then buy it back and just sell the whole front end in parts and make a good profit off it :)

God this winds me up! People see a stone chip and assume it was a 40mph impact. Cars crumple. They are made of sheet metal. Go crash into something at 30mph and see what happens.

Bad news on the accident. 800% write off without question.

well police on the scene did say they even think it wasnt at 30mph. The guy just about to cross at the zebra crossing said he thinks it was well over 30. So noone will know apart from the guy who caused it. But im just thankful everyone walked away fine as cars are replacable :)
