fuel economy shafted

  black gold 182
hi people,

ive recently fitted a closed induction kit and exhaust system - and i think its ruined my fuel economy - the last fill up was £48 and lasted me 260 miles of mixed driving - but mostly sensible.
but ive also recently started using the air con.

which do you think would be the culprit here?

and if it is the induction kit - would a remap sort out the fueling?

cheers,

dave.

What induction kit and exhaust have you got?

When i fitted an itg filter in an Espace V6 air box my fuel economy went up. I have a new exhust coming so im not sure what effect that will have.

Aircon will not effect it much.

i never use the air con lol try not using it and see how you go. i have a de-cat pannel and ss exhaust. my mpg is going at 38 normal driving. if anything its gone up from 36..

ive got a simota induction kit and ktec exhaust,

i hope its not a faulty part like lambda sensor its only done 20k lol

ive heard another tip - which is to disconnect the negative at the battery for 30 mins so that the ecu can do something or other to re-learn the fuel/air ratio.

ring any bells with anyone?

A remap will sort that out fella....nics standard 182 gets low 30`s...my tuned Cup gets high 30`s and 42+ on the motorway

Nope thats bs

Why's it BS ? I was told you should do this when you fit an induction kit by a guy who works at K+N in research and development . Maybe i should tell him he's wrong eh ? I should have known it would get this kind of repsonse , it's quite typical of the Cliosport experts :quiet:

Sounds like b****cks. Surely the parameters are programmed into the ECU, it's not going to forget anything!

It measures the air flow all the time and adjusts fuelling to suit.

Well i'm going off my own personal experience . After i fitted a K+N Apollo to my 182 which was only a couple of weeks old it just died at the side of the road and wouldn't restart . The AA bloke couldn't restart it either so towed me home . I didn't follow the instructions i.e. disconnect the battrery for 30 minutes .

I phoned K+N and spoke the the guy in R+D and he told me that was why it died . So i followed the instructions and all was well after that ;)

Now then . Who should i believe ? A young pup who works for some telecom company or a bloke who works with induction kits for a living , hmmmmmm .

Its a no brainer really if you ask me :rasp:

Well I have no idea either way...all I know is I had it rr'd at Hill Power and Nick said it wasn't pulling quite as it should (had the Rsport ecu at the time but hadn't been as quick as it used to be) He also suggested the battery method which I tried and did a before and after comparison against Flaming Monkeys (before his cams were timed properly) and it made a fair old difference.....pretty sure the Nana used to do something similar every so often for what ever reason

Exactly .It costs nothing . It may or may not fettle his fuel economy problem but it's worth a try :)

Remember to check you have the code for the radio unit before doing that though otherwise it'll be US

Worth a try though

  A SHED!
Used to do this on my integra....but you also had to disconnect the ecu fuse and backup for 30 seconds. My Aem v2 induction ran the car smoother after i did this.
