full comp insurance question

as above i ve got full comp on my valver,

i am insured with elephant, my question is can i still drive someone elses car, i think i will be insured third party on it,

the policy does not say anything about it. im 22 and my dad reckons you have to be 25 to be able to do it.

my mate who is also insured with them and fc test drove an elise and a honda s2000 with no problems.

i think the answer is Yes, although i havent driven anything yet, what do you guys think ?

thanks cat171

I think that you will be covered third party for someone eles car, but it is possible that they are covered for anyone to drive it.

To be absolutely sure, why not give Elephant a quick ring.

You have to be over 25 i beleive. On a test drive youre insured through the garage. If its a private sale he wouldnt have been insured.

oh there goes that idea,

ill give them a bell tomorrow to see what they say,

funny theres nothing in the policy about it though.

My policy states that anyone over the age of 21 may drive another car with the owners permission with 3rd party cover only.

right!

Depends on your terms and conditions. Some insurers will give you a DOC extention (Driving other cars) and put an age restriction on it (usually you have to be over 21)

Garages have fleet insurance which basically covers them for any driver TPO, hence your mate just getting in the S2000 in driving off. Look on your paperwork to be sure.

Renault policy is 25

I cannot understand that its 21 for courtesy cars but anyone seems to be able to test drive cars. My old insurance with the aa used to let me drive any car 3rd party with owners permission. However different policies have different rules. I belive directline says you have to be over 21 to drive another car 3rd party.

Ill give you a good tip for elephant... it will help you with your next policy if you havent done this already. It doesnt work for all companies but it does work with elephant, apologies to those who know but it can only help the unitiated... read on...

Put a second driver on, preferably a woman without any points/claims and watch your quote drop by about 15%!! My mates Puma 1.7, fc = £600 without mam on, with was £520, my RT £380 without step mam on, £297 with her on. In both cases, the women drove other cars, had license for more than 5 years and had no points/claims. It doesnt even have to be a relative!!

Like I say most of you may know this, but even if it only helps one person Ill be happy.

In answer to the original thread post, Im not sure, Im 27 and I could phone elephant and find out. I currently have a fc policy. If you want me to Ill give them a ring tomorrow.

Regards and stuff,

Chris.
