Funking BT HomeHubs.

Why oh why will they not agree with me. When they aren't crashing because I'm trying to upload more than one photo at a time to Flickr, they are finding new and interesting ways to tick me off.

Just moved, and have been trying to get the wireless on my 360 to work with the hub for ages. I've pretty much given up as I'm off out in an hour. But anyway, all it does is connect for a few seconds (takes AGES to sign in) then after a little bit it disconnects and loses the network. It's not a signal problem as the hub is only 5m down the corridor?

I've set the homehub to allow XBOX Live and "XBconnect" etc. Plus i changed from WPA to a WEP key. I just don't see why its being such a pleb.

I really don't know who designed this heap of cack, but I'm pretty sure a toaster would be more affective. I know its meant to be about £70 worth of kit but all it seems to do is crash and not work

The xbox adapter should support WPA, they added it not too long ago!

Could never get ours to work either just costantly dropping connection then would come back 5 mins later, it's in a drawer and got a netgear one instead.

And Xbox can handle WPA just fine I use it

Re routed it to my room so i could go wired and my famo can still use the wireless.

Also slow, Cant wait to change providers.

Get into the settings, remove all security and enable mac filtering. Thats how I got our livebox to work flawlessly for the last 2 years

bt are good broadband, all internet providers use their lines so you should be getting best speed on their network

The settings arent good like that. The menu system is just a joke.

No. They are dreadful. The contract should be up soon so will change back to o2 Broadband or Be Broadband. Rate them very highly.

just don't go for the top package as the router is dogshit, makes the homehub look like gold block.

I can have my laptop 1m from it and i get 2mb of the 20mb download speed, using a cable i get all 20mb, the wireless on it is useless.

Aye, at my dads I set him up with Be Value, unlimited 8meg broadband. We can't really get 8mbps around here its usually 5meg max so does the job. And the pikey wireless box they give you is still better than the failbox.

But jason, you will still be using BT line's , bt own all of the line's at the moment but other company's like virgin etc are bringin optic cable out to would increase speeds alot.

So if you change to another provider it aint going to change, why dont you just ditch the homehub and use a normal belkin router?

I'm not denying that. Its just that BT Make you pay through the teeth for theres. Its the homehub that ruins everything. I've got 2 Wireless Routers (Both Identical) from o2 broadband. May use them but not sure on the settings etc.

He's right Jason, nothing wrong with BT's lines. The hub is poor unless you set it up with the advanced options though.

I've not really had any major problems with mine apart from xbox live but a bit of tinkering in the settings and it's been fine for years now.

LLU has nothing to do with the lines from the exchange to the premises, its the equipment in the exchange which they own.

the line is owned by bt wholesale and normally openreach manages the line.

there can be any number of reasons for an unreliable service, poor wiring in the house, poor bt socket, line interference, distance from exchange, dodgy microfilter etc.

if you don't like the homehub (mine was ok the 3 yrs i had it, and that was with constant downloading too) then use a different router.

Fair point. However when I hear somebody mention BT I usually assume they mean BT retail. Whilst part of the same parent company I view openreach as a seperate company.

The simple fact is BT sucks. I was with them for three years before moving to Virgin and the difference is like night and day. The BT throttling policy is draconian. At least Virgin publish what you have to download to hit the throttle. Try getting that info from BT. Plus BT appear to think that RIPA does not apply to them.

I work for BT (Albeit not in retail or wholesale or openreach.) I hear a lot of problems but then again all service providers hear a lot of problems from customers. Personally mine's always been ok it's never been brilliant but I'm a fair way from the nearest local exchange.

Our BT is if you download over 100GB in month they slow you to 1mb between 5 and 12 which is pretty horrific but still seem to be able to run xbox live on it fine.

its quite an epic table that (kind of lost it's tableness lol http://allyours.virginmedia.com/html/internet/traffic.html), and lets give you 20mb broadband and then throttle you 75% if you download anything decent, which if you have 20mb you will want, and throttling the upload speed too!

O2/Be is where it's at, no throttling, anytime, i get 20mb down and 2mb up and it's like that all the time!

I'm on the 50mb which isn't throttled (yet). At least virgin give you the information - not that I agree with the limits etc. Trying to get the same information from BT (well for me anyway) was like trying to get blood from a stone. I used to live 200m from the exchange and get a constant 7.8mb during the day with BT. Evenings however an entirely different story - 500k between 5pm to 12 every day of the week. Utter w**k!
