Gatso revenue collectors

  tiTTy & SV650

I dont condone speeding in built up areas. Im not 100% innocent either before anyone gets on their high horse!

what gets me about gatsos etc is that they cant differentiate between vehicle types.

What I mean by this is if I were doing 70 on a 60 (theoretically) through a gatso Id get flashed and no doubt get a letter through. However if a bus whos speed limit for the same road is 50mph goes through the camera at 60 - 66 they dont get flashed even though theyre going way over their speed limit!

How can a car driver be done for exceeding the speed limit by 6 or 8 mph when a lorry or bus driver can plod along risk free at 15mph more than their limit?!

Justice?! Wander what a bus / lorry braking distance is compared to a 182!

Speed is speed regardless of vehicle.

Im confused?
speed limits are different according to vehicle types, im just saying its pretty messed up when a large vehicle with huge stopping distance and massive momentum can get away with speeding significantly (in the instance of speed cameras).

Well a gatso goes off at a preset speed is what i meant, regardless of type.

only a small proportion of gatsos have film in...

I have been thru one at ** on a 30 and not get flashed.

wouldnt boast about that on here!

The limit on a single carriageway national limit road for a HGV is 40mph, for a car its 60mph. I think the original point was that a lorry can sped significantly above 40mph without being snapped by a Gatso.

I dont know if this is true of the Gatso, but I think that was the point regardless. Truvelo cameras discriminate between HGV and car I think...could be wrong.

Truvelo camera also discriminate between Motorbike and Cars.

Its true that they are too set for one speed (and not for weight) therefore even lf a lorry is exceeding its own speed limit (which is less than a cars) it can not get for speeding becasue they rarley exceed 75mph., even though at 75mph they would be 20mph over the speed limit.....

A mate of mine has a Motorbike and goes though two Truvelo cameras near me on the A1 at 140mph and will NEVER get caught becasue bikes NO number on the front to read and you can not see his face behind the helmet.

The are totally a car stealth tax and nothing else.....

Simon.
Ive heard of bikers who put a foot out over the rear number plate when going through gatsos! Thats quite ballsy eh.

I used to work in a shop and served a traffic cop who bombs about in supercharged mercs that do 8 or 9 mpg. He said he thought speed cameras were just revenue generators in most instances - straight from the horses mouth!

Yeah its a good read although very one sided obviously. Im sure theres folk to argue the opposing case, and no doubt theyll try on here

I agree with it, my driving is centred around my thinking that everyone else is stupid and can;t drive, ive got to think for them aswell as me.

Seems to work for me!

theres a lot of cameras that are just dummies, saw one round our way that someone had bricked, you could see inside it was just an empty shell lol

This is just one example of stupid strategic camera placement:

On the Barnet By Pass, there are three lanes with a 70MPH speed limit...

The limit rightly changes to 50, once into built up areas, with roundabouts etc..

On the way back out, there is a Speed Camera, set up at 50mph, Just before a huge great big whopping National Speed Limit Sign.

Its sole purpose to to get people while theyre accelerating upto the national speed limit...

Somebody put a safety twist on this one....

Yeah Id like to see someone try...
Easy. You get done, they generate money for even more of the damn things, they make more money, the Government is safe cos it doesnt have to increase taxes by quite so much.

You will find that Speed cameras are run by Partnerships in Majority, which have a FEW educated Traf Pols, that do the enforcing of the speed/red taffic/safety cameras, you will probably find that this particular traffic policeman hasnt got a clue about what he is talking about!

Did he work for a partnership? If not he is probably talking out of his rectum!
