sold the rx7... was gutted but time had come!

anyway replaced it with a audi b6 s4, has a 4.2l V8... not massively powerful, but it shifts very well for the car size and weight!

at the moment the car is stock.

has the silver (actually cream) recaro interior, audi sat nav (rns-d) which isnt as good as the rns e but even thats not amazing lol... has nearly every option you could spec, rear electric blind, blinds in the rear doors, heated front and rear seats, heated washer jets and mirrors, 6 disk changer, arm rest, ski hatch with ski bag, fridge in glove box, full audi history, option wheels, folding heated mirrors, parking sensors front and rear... plus more i cant remember.

anyway my first thoughts... looking at the car outside, it looks similar to other a4's apart from the front grills, rear spoiler, 2 pipes and the chrome trim you cant really see much difference.
getting in the car its a really nice place to be, leg room in the back with my seat in its most comfortable place is minimal, but i can stretch right out and everything works and works perfectly, i spent some time cleaning the leather, it needs more work tbh but its nearly there :) seating position is perfect for me, steering wheel can some times feel too far away for the peddles but everything else is in its right place, i kind of wish the steering wheel was a multi function job but the option version is NASTY!

loads of storage space, the boot is HUGE loads of little places like under the front seats to stick stuff as well as both doors etc, the glove box is not great on space due to the fridge and the cd changer in there.

engine: with stock exhaust it has a nice quiet growl to it, people saying that it would cost loads to run, on a run the other day of 76 miles with sensible driving on motorway, around town with a couple of bursts i averaged 26mpg... this included a "lets see how fast it goes" stint at which i hit the speed limiter... if you drive it like a normal person in a normal manor you can get high 20's to low 30's in it! if you drive like you are on fire you can get low teens!

handling: its a big HEAVY car, its not going to go down twisty roads as quick as a rx7 however it holds its own! esp off and it will hold the back end out on it, its very predictable and controllable. turning circle is pretty crap, put your foot down and it just goes, no matter what gear you are in, 0-60 its not close to my rx7 pace, but 60-140 it feels ALOT quicker!

there is nothing i dont like, it doesnt have the same feeling through the steering wheel the rx7 did but it doesnt bother me, it cruises well, it picks up and f***s off when you want it too but you could also pick up your nan and take her for a drive and she would be happy and comfortable!

plans? i want an exhaust, just for the noise, i have looked at the milltek i wasnt massively impressed, its STUPIDLY priced (£700 ish for a cat back, 2-3k for a full system) yes there is alot of pipe from the engine but its not gold plated lol and the welds arent that amazing on them either! so im going to a specialist who will build one to my specs (semi tempted to get rid of cats and have a valve to quieten it but it will be a pain come mot... so will for now prob be cat back with new down pipes. it will also be chipped, by who im unsure, tbh i want a custom map done as most "chips" just have the throttle react quicker and a bit more timing... when fueling etc can be done but they dont tend to touch that for some random reason! on top of this im gonna stick the rs4 anti roll bars on it, massive cost of 65 quid lol!

im tempted to get the RNSE nav unit but its gonna wait as its not that amazing and there is no real fully working ipod connection kit that will let you control it from the head unit and display track info etc? however having the 2 mem cards would mean i wouldnt need ipod connection maybe just bluetooth for hands free... but thats at the bottom of my list for the moment.

couple of pics from today after i washed, polished with my das6 pro and then used prima amigo followed by petes 53.

Fair play to you. Most people just start threads like this,

Very nice. I was following a guy in one a while back with an exhaust and it sounded like thunder. I think his was a custom job though as it was loud..very infact. Going up whiteladies road in Bristol.

Fuel costs seem comparable to a BMW 330 then..

The wheels let it down a little too imo. If theyre going to be that style they need to be 19's. The stock 18's look much nicer imo.

  Turbos.
Nice write up.

I wouldn't get a loud exhaust; you have bought an understated car, wouldn't suit it IMO. Agree that Miltek is overrated though.

These sound amazing too!

lovely stuff, my old boss used to have a green one, not as many options as that but was a fantastic car to drive. Engine felt like it could pull your house down with the grunt low down.

It is however no volvo.

Lovely mate, glad you went saloon. :)

Doesn't this have the flap in the exhaust you can bypass?

Not that I know of, at no point does it get louder put it that way lol.

Im not going to go mental loud, as englebert said, it won't suit it, just something nice but that sounds meaningful :) tbh going cat back on it you won't get too loud, it's only if you remove the cats they go loud, but as I said come mot it will be a pain.

Nice! Personally I'm more of a fan of the B7, I just think the front end looks meaner!. But still its a beautiful car.

James Talk to Simon at AMD in west byfleet , he is good on the B6 S4 because he ran his own for a long time if he still does't now ...

have to say i am impressed if your getting high 20's as we have only managed low 20's and less ,but ours is a cab .

oh and whats a limiter ;)

Well today I went to a fabricators, wanted to replace the exhaust and there was no way I was paying milltek prices for something I wasn't impressed with quality wise... Stuck it on a ramp, got underneath... Something didn't look right, bearing in mind the previous owner said it was stock.... It's got a milltek resonated exhaust on it new centre section needed to make it noisy.... Getting it done tomorrow by a mate :) milltek wanted 190 plus vat for a non resonated centre section, which im getting made tomorrow by my fab mate and fitted :) and some new tips fitted :)

Will get downpipes done in a couple weeks once I have got some lambda extension leads as I need to move the lambdas to after the main cat, then get mapping sorted :) which should have it about 380-400bhp.

Love them, its between a B6 or B5 S4 for me next, just have to find the money from somewhere! Only £60 more to insure than the 182 as well. Madness.

I looked at a 2005 B7 S4 Avant before the R32, I loved it but the noise from the R32 made me weak at the knees.

  225 Cup & Williams
That is lovely. A guy I know had an estate version and I couldn't believe how well it handled for such a big car goes along rather briskly too.

Nope, for opening the ski hatch and for deploying the ski bag lol, centre arm rest dropped it opens a hatch then the bag pops out, so you can slide ski's in to it and not get inside the car dirty/wet basically a condom for inside the car :)

Saw the other thread about this and an M3, i'm amazed that you thought this was better. They have aged badly as well. Should sound good with a decent exhaust though.

Lol oh you own a e46 so you would have a pop lol, interior is MUCH nicer on the s4 similar performance and for me a better all round package.

Very nice it would be very hard to choose one of these over the M3.... Just because I'm an M3 fan boy lol

But love the colour combo and does look hard :)

The V8 burble alone is worth getting one over an M3. As capable as an M3 is, they sound shite.

Lmfao, ok then. The Audi might sound nice but they are very dull cars, I have driven both the turbo s4's and v8's along with the current shape RS4 and whilst they are a decent all round package they are just an audi with a fast engine and a pleasant place to be, not special to drive like an M3.

  Mk2 Ph2 172
We can turn this in to another S4 vs M3 thread lol

But the S4 is so much more refined than the e46 m3 and I think the e46 is refined enough, that's why I prefer the e36 M3 evo !!!

Can't take away that the S4 is a great car but for me they bore just because they are bloody easy to drive and safe as houses !!!

I like the M3 over this just because you have to have your wits about it and they can catch you out which I love :)

Build quality of the Audi is much better than the BMW, the e46 must have been a Friday afternoon design
