Gearbox Leak 172 - Plastic white bit

  Clio 172
My Clio has a very messy Gearbox Leak.

Today i got under it to try and figure out what make the Steering rack was and noticed that when i applied pressure to the Gear Selector the white piece with a circlip appeard to be cracked down the centre and leak oil.
Could this be my main Gearbox leak or am i looking in the wrong place?
I am not even sure what this part does.
Forgive me, i am used to MX5s, it is all much simpler with a RWD

Any help much appreciated!!!!!!!

No leak poss from the circlip part - that's just a ball socket - it looks a bit worn.
The oil leak will most deff be the selector shaft oil seal , common issue with Renaults.
Also check the left front driveshaft where it meets the gearbox casing , seen a few leaking from around there also.

Thankyou mate for the info.

Makes sense that being the ball socket.
Looks a bit buggered anyway.

In regards to the selector shaft seal i have read that there is a fix available?
Would you know where i can buy that from that would post to Aus?

I will have a better look tomorrow but i feel like i also did see a bit of oil around the passenger drive shaft.

My plan is to degrease it all and then see exactly what gets wet first!!

Again really appreciate your help.

your welcome dweezle .
Glad it's helped .
As a little trick - once it's de-greased and dry , puff a load of talcum powder over the affected area , it will help you locate the source of the oil loss.
