Gearbox rebuild.. Help

Anyone know of any decent gearbox specialists in the Midlands area that won't cost me the price of the car? Any help will be much appreciated. Cheers in advance.

Nope, for the gearbox rebuild I had, including. diff fitting I use DaveMacProps / Corby Motorsport (Coventry).

I use Jamie Packham at J-tech automotive for everything suspension related, Dan at SJM for engine / power and RS Tuning for mapping.

So what happened with agency...they were the go to place and now they are the pits it seems....

The few experiences I've had with them, I've not had a good one. I will add these are all customer supplied gearboxes. Every one has leaked in some way, with Robs being the worst (hadn't even put a seal in th end cap judging by the amount of oil it was loosing. It went in with a whining 5th, came out with a knocking diff. Explain that?

Well ultimately agency are cheaper than any other gearbox repairer. On all the boxes I've looked at and priced up for repair, the parts alone have cost more than what agency charge! I know from conversations I've had with Martin @ agency transmissions, he had a lot of spares in stock. When I needed some for my own box, he couldn't supply them as he said he couldn't spare them anymore.

Loctite 518 is the sealant that your supposed to use on these gearboxes. It's what I use when I build them.

I've been left with a Clio that sounds like a combination of a Singer sewing machine or a Suffolk Punch. To those who don't know what this is, it's an old petrol 2 stroke lawnmower. But at least the gearbox was given a clean up.

The gearbox I just removed from my car (due to loud whining, grumbling diff bearings and crunching 3rd gear) was seemingly refurbished quite recently....

I'm starting to lose trust in just about everybody surrounding Clios at the moment.

will do. price is going to dependent on what each box needs, want to have a couple of rebuilt ones on the shelf plus doing a drive in drive out service as well.

Sounds brilliant, I would come to the drive in drive out service if you have it set up soon.

My car is currently being rebuilt at Clioturbo and I told him to send my gbox off to agency while its there, but I would prefer to leave the gbox and drive to you tbh after hearing some stories recently on here about agency.

Does anyone want a run down of the cost of the gearbox parts that I have? These are genuine Renault items and I think it will give a good insight as to how much it can cost to carry out the most common repairs.

When I say gearbox parts I mean gearbox parts list btw!

I think if you got them shot peened and case hardened they'd last a bit longer tbh. No offer of a guarantee though!

I can accommodate. :wink: You'll lose less hp as well as the transmission losses are reduced. Another bonus is that you could get a nice long 1st gear, with the rest all nice and close.
