Gearboxes on clio Mk1

  Renault clio mk1 p3
Are all the gearboxes for the clio Mk1 compatible with any clio Mk1 engine?

lets say 1.2 with a 1.8 16v box or 1.9d with a 1.8 16v box or vise verser.

Any help please:cool:

no they look the same but the pcd is about 10mm smaller on the 1.2 boxs and has the bottom of the bellhousing lobbed off . think the 1.4 is the same as 1.2 but not sure anything above that is the same laguna /extra/r5/megane/etc . for example a 1.2 box doesnt fit a 1.8 16v viceversa

the 1.2 boxes do fit. Ive had one fitted to mine before. but the bottom of the bell housing doesnt meet, so its only held on by 8 bolts.

the only ones that wont fit are the 1.2 diets as the starter is on the front.

Derv often have the strongest boxes in them ie JC3 for the torque only the williams got a 5 spec box the Valver used a 3 type box the 1.2 and 1.4 use the 1 series box.

ok so derv boxes are ok for me...now could you tell me about clutches, are they also all different? could i use a 16v racing clutch in a derv box?

Any Help Please:cool:

all the splines on the input shafts are the same, but its the diameter of the clutch and the diaphragm (sp) plate that make the fitment undure to fit. The 172 clutches are different to the valver ones, im undure how the clutch looks/size is on the derv having never fitted one!

right just did a little research as its late and tbh i really cant be arsed to do much...

the 1.4 and derv clutches on a 19 are the same, so iirc the clutch from a 1.816 will fit a 1.4, but like i said, its late and i cant really remember much of what i did tonight, letalone what fits what.

Thanks for your input mate...so it may fit then

Would a 1.9 diesel box be any good on a valver turbo or are the ratios to tall?? Guessing it could more than handle the torque of a 16v turbo

And are they stonger than the valver box as i here they are sh*t for handling power/torque

Diesel boxes are the strongest boxes realy bar the willaims one realy infact there a lot of diesel box parts used in the construction of the williams box sine it was the strongest of the range as such.

iv got a valver an i broke a sellctor fork in the box wen i was looking for a new box i was woried buy the price but i stiped it an rebiult the old box and it only cost me £40 for an new fork and some other bits so i dont mined if it goes agen
