Getting closer to 12 k Service

  182cup/D40/Hornet
Got about 600 miles to go before my first official service just want to clarify something, can ANY vat registered garage do it providing they stick to the renault schedule and use renault parts?(so not to invalidate the warranty)
I thought this was the case but a bloke at work today was saying 'nah it will have to be a renault/renault approved garage' (coz this is the case with his vauxhall or so he seems to think)

If you don't have a FRSH then you void the warranty, in the same way that servicing your car yourself voids a warranty... Even though it suggests you're taking better care of it.

12k mile service is hardly a milestone. Just routine oil/filter change etc.

^^^Yeah I know, but I don't have much faith in the renault garages in the area, will have to ring round tomorrow, about £200 I think.
Got my own oil though

You need the garage to use offical Renault parts and stamp the book so long as there VAT rated there no issue.

Its an EEC ruling that Renault/Vauxhall don't need to do it. Just a garage. However iof the garage don't check something which is on the service and it fails ie oil leaking from the engine and later on the engine blows up the garge who did the service not Renault are having to foot th bill since if the service had been done correctly then the item would have been picked up and fixed cheaply earlier on.

You have a 1k/1month tolerance so you could leave it till 134k or 25months if you want beyond that point Renault would start asking for a % of the money towards any warently claims were correct serviving would have fixed them.

you can have the car serviced at any vat registered garage... as long as they use genuine parts... they have to honour the warranty.

I had my 12k service done by a Renault main dealer on Friday and it cost just £158. Shop around mate and you'll find a massive difference in the price the Renault main dealers charge. The most expensive quote I had was from another Renault main dealer who wanted £232 for exactly the same job!

As far as I was aware, you can have your car serviced in a VAT registered garage and maintain the warranty.
The government stepped in with regard to warranties because they said it wasn't fare to be paying dealer service prices to keep the warranty valid.

Provided its done proffesionally you won't have any problems with you warranty. Its only if you don't service the car at the stated points that it will be invalid.

My 1st service is due soon too. Local independent say £150, Renault say £250 (only dealer in the area) and on top of that Renault are absolutely useless in my experience, so I'm going to the local.

Also, you know if you go to Renault they'll only get the apprentice to do it. I've heard of loads of stories where things that were supposed to have been done as part of a service weren't even touched by main dealers.

Just buy the parts seperately and keep the invoice, then take it to a independant, that way you know the right oil will be used and not some budget rubbish.

  Shhh
Get a price from another dealer, and get them too price match..

I expect no more than £130 for oil and filter change and a look round the car..

Think its

Air filter
Pollen Filter
Oil Filter
Oil
Washer Fluid
New sump washer
Dispose of old oil

Then a general look about the car.. (generally brake disks / pads) then ring you up telling you they need changing at about £400....

price match is a good idea if you have several dealers, but where I live there are only 2 I know of, both owned by the same company.

Near Canterbury, Kent. There are dealers in Canterbury and Dover, but both owned by the same people.

Maybe not dealers local to you but will give you a price on a 182 12k service. Then ring your dealers asking them why it is so expensive for them to service it as you use same renault parts, and the same time.... and im sure they will come back to you on a price match.. :)

Make sure people are about, dont tell them which garages you rang etc, just tell them how much it was, it was a renault dealer and that its not right..

Think i got my 36k down from about £380 too £200 ishy when i complained that they wanted £140 for a aux belt.. got it for £30 fitted.. :)

will give it a go. 3 of the 4 above are Driveline (where I bought the car), They're useless and I'd rather not go back. However I just found another dealer in Margate which is not too far and they'll do it for £185 incl VAT which is not bad.
