Getting to know the AA man - a day in the life of the clio owner! lol

  No more clio's for me!
Had to call the AA man out today for the second time in as many weeks.

First time was for the a blown rad, which i have subsequently had fixed with a new one :)

Second time round was for the reoccurance of my mystery revving problem, which first occured about 6months ago and was traced to a 'dicky' connection in the engine bay...i start the car up car jumps straight to 2k revs and climbs to 3k revs and sits there idolling away. It started at 7:30am this morning when i got in my car, i still decided to drive it the 60mile trip to uni to try and clear it, using the clutch and brake to keep the rev's down in traffic (not a clever idea!! lol). Made it to uni and still no luck, even after spraying WD-40 on even electrical connector in sight, so i called the boys in yellow :)

30mins later the chap arrived :approve: After a bit of discussion and some head scratching, looking in the engine bay. The guy started to look around under the go faster pedal. He pulled the electrical connector out from behind the pedal, which promptly induced an ECU fault on the dash board, but hey the car idolled prefectly. He plugged the connector back in and left the car idolling for 5mins or so. He went and checked with the help/tech desk and they confirmed that this is a 'common/well known' fault with the pedal connectors??

After trying the ignition off and on, the ECU fault cleared from the dash board and as if by magic the car was prefect :)

To be on the safe side the chap plugged his computer to read the ECU for faults. Now this is the interesting part....the AA man asked what model the car is....i said Clio 2 litre 172, he looks on his computer and says, oh there isn't a 2 litre listed...it can't be a 2 litre!! You what mate!! It can't be a 2 litre he replied. I think you'll find it is...1998cc 16v to be precise ;) Well its not on the AA database blah blah blah....well i think you need to talk to you boss. lol (ownage)

Anyway, the computer confirmed no ECU faults :D

But he did say get it to Renault ASAP to check that pedal connection out. Anyone else had this 'common' problem??

no, but it might be something to do with yours clearly being the only 2.0 clio or something...?!

did he not notice the engine cover saying 2.0 16v when he had his head under there?!
