Gremlins in my ICE!!!

  Clio dynamique 1.4 16v
Hi everyone, i've started getting intermit probs with my setup. first the amp started going off and coming back on again, which is now fine. Now my sub keeps going off and coming back on, but not a regular rate ( always seems to be when the girlfriend is in the car). I've checked all the wires and nothing is loose, it's very odd, any ideas?:dapprove:

I used to have the problem of my amp cutting out for split seconds every now and again. Fitted a bigger battery and all was solved.

make sure the earth/ground contact is good.

may happen if you turn it up to loud i.e drawing too much power.(i think)

My old setup did this at random - turned out to be a fault in the amp causing it to go into protection mode. Got it sorted under warranty :)

my amp is not under warranty any more. is it pos that the head unit is on it's way out?

it's a 4x100 amp and the cable is a big thick red one with a fuse the size of a mars bar (best i could say right now).

not much wiring involved in mine
amp and subs all sealed in one unit, would be a pain if that went teets up

new battery, or new amp i would say

take it into HALFRAUDS if your brave enough ask a ripspeed speciliast bodger to take a quick look for you, just tell him you bought it from halfords wont cost you a penny unless they are a true loyal Halfrauder

Halfords don't sell planet audio. I always go to K&M accoustics, it's just that they don't do much for loyal customers, no matter how much you spend in their shop (not very cheap either).

Then they're not an Audio dealer, they just like to sell "boxes of stuff"

Put the foot down or mention your local trading standards branch ;)

I'm back after more money being spent!! Most of the probs are gone now (new rca leads have stoppped the sub and the amp going off). The only prob now is intermit interference type noise ( like when you move the tv aeral and it make that hissing type noise). The prob is that K&M tested everything and checked all the bits and couldn't find anything & it didn't do it when it was with them, but 2 days later it started again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Help please!!!!!

I fit high end car audio for a living and i could quite easily solve your hifi problem!!!! id say it was a bad earth or more likely the equipment. make sure you drill a hole in the cars body, clean the paint off and screw or nut and bolt the earth cable to the body! if that doesnt solve it i bet its the equipment! your either over driving it and its getting hot or your driving the amp into distorsion!

Dan, I understand what your saying, but the guys i go to are really good pros too. I had the same kit in my megane with no probs, it's only since i got a clio. I've got a new HU, leads, Sub. K&N say the fault just doesn't happen when they had it. Most of the time i can't fault it. People have mentioned stuff like battery probs and power. I just need it to happen when they are open so they can pinpoint it.

Have you checked the fuse holder, my amp was having intermitent power outages due to the holder being crap, a bit of duck tape sorted it:)

  Clio dynamique 1.4 16v
I'll check that at lunch time. Nothing suprises me anymore. That would explain some things like it does it more if i turn the key, but not all the way so the engine starts up (like you do when waxing).

I've been told power caps are useless.

Oh holy moly someone listens :star:

Power caps are not a good idea :nono:
A decent battery & wiring kit is more efficient and reliable.

Couldnt agree more. If your goin to do the batt then dont forget the alternator!!!
Power caps are only anygood if you havedimming head lights or a really cheap amp. being in the car audio audio business i have seen it proved that they are a waste of money if you have a decent amp. Xenons cure the dimming problem and are far more benificial than a cap and can see better at nite. If you want to know the reason why caps dont work ring BBG UK . the distributors of JL audio and they will explain cos i cant be bothered!

power caps don't work end of.

it's down to the amount useable energy they have that they don't work (iirc it's about 100 joules)

BBG also distribute Streetwires - the leading wiring equipment for car audio - so sign of powercaps there. That says enough.

They dont do much with streetwires anymore. but yes your right. they have swapped streetwires for all the jl audio range of cables and fuse holders etc. awesome stuff. we stock everything JL do!
