handbrake sticking on and rear drums grinding

  Clio
my rear drums are dragging and its like the handbrake is stuck on :(, is there an easy way to fix this? what does my car need? would i be better off going to a garage?

cheers, Mike

could be your rear drums are a little shagged, but usually its because they're dust sealed and in need of a clean.

you can do it yourself, you need to strip down the drums and apply some brake cleaner and then allow it to fully dry and then reassemble them. or you can take it to a garage who shouldnt charge much

Mikey how olds the car mate? Renault have now got 4 years unlimited mileage on any rear shoe problems on Clios due to the amount of trouble they've had with them, so if its not too old get it sorted for free. As you say though, sounds like your rear shoe has come off its rivets and jammed your drums up, common on Clios.

i had the same problem on mine, which was 2003 plate about a year ago, and that just needed stripping and cleaning.

Is easy enough to strip and clean them, only do one side at a time though so you know where all the springs go.

I would give renault a call mate, from the sounds of it you should be covered. Give ur local garage a call and tell them about the 4 yr free thingy.... let us know how you get on for other members here and future reference

mine is a 2002 and my drums were knackered about 3 months ago. i needed new cylinders and shoes cause they had stuck on tighter than if i applied the handbrake.
