Has anyone used Eagle F1 GSD3 in the snow??

Just getting ready for the fact that the weather is gonna be s**t soon. I currently have 4 F1s fitted all with between 4 and 5mm tread. I also have a full set of 14" steel spares that i was planning on using for winter but are fitted with mich energy that have the grip of a slab of butter.

Ive been told in the past that eagles are crap in the snow but have never tried. Anyone any experiences?

Thanks
John

yeah i do, but id heard that the are poss one of the worst tyres ever for snow use! Just wanting opinions! If they are they are ok then the steelies are getting punted. I love it when it snows and you find an empty car park, must tighten up my handbrake this year ;)

To be honest I would have thought that most normal road tyres perform badly in snow, hence why out pathetic country grinds to a halt after an inch of snowfall, but would've though tyres with deeps tread blocks and water channels would be the ones that would be more likely to dig in and "grip". Skinny wheels are better if rally cars are anything to go by! (I realise these have spikes).

Toyos with the same tread pattern where crap in the snow, the tread pattern just fills up with snow and wont clear.

I had the F1's on mine when I was with the ex - They weren't bad but the gsd2's have quite small treads and they filled up quite quickly. I'm seriously considering getting some proper snow tyres if it's going to be as bad as the papers are going on about.

Yeah after all its the salt that damages your car, i had pilot exalto 1 and 2 and they were both ok in the snow but when it came to stopping they just skid, i've got some pilot sports now but ive heard they arent much better, if you want winter tyres i think michelin do some, they are called alpines or something like that

me too! ;)

havent experienced them in snow yet though, and dont really want to! lol

Same here. I never had a problem with them driving normally. The only issue I did have was reversing back up my drive, it's not very steep but they just wouldn't grip, I guess the treat pattern is designed with going forwards in mind.

Thats what I was thinking. Think I'll chuck my 14s on for the winter and just take it easier the whole time!!
Cheers lads

Conti sports are sh*te in snow! Summer tryes aren't any good in snow in general. Get some chains for the 14's?

where are you planning on taking your car?
it hardly ever proplerly snows here, and if it does the whole country stopps anyway. don't worry about it :)

Yeah I know it barely snows!! Na dont need chains definitly. Just dont want to be at the stage where its dangerous to drive in the snow. Ive never let any amount of snow put me off yet!

And I guess you only wear that flat cap when you're driving to keep your bald spot warm ;)

I've got a full head of hair I'll let you know ... tho' it is grey admittedly. I wear the flat cap because it looks good and the ladies like it ;)

I have - and they're scarily rubbish! Like others have said, the tread just fills up with snow. I've had a lot more success in the snow with budget tyres on a 1.1 Citroen AX!
As for winter tyres, don't waste your money - it doesn't snow here enough to warrant them, and they wear much quicker due to the rubber compund they use.
Forget studded/spiked tyres as I'm sure they're illegal to use on the roads here, and in most of europe (apart form Scandinavia).

Yeah michelin energys on 14s will be going on. Used them last year and they seemed ok, just crap in the wet compared to eagles!! Cheers Karlos. And yeah studded is taking the piss a bit!!!! Its Scotland, it snows yeah but not like in Scandinavia!

I was thinking of driving down to the Alps this winter as it would be a fun road trip.

It might sound daft, but do snow chains damage alloys? I have seen some cars in the Alps with strange caps on the centre cap which I guess pushes the chains away from the rim? Has anybody used chains on 16's before?

Ta muchly.
