been on this site a while now,been reading all about the 172 and 182....
hoping to buy a car in august,my first choice was a 182 .but after reading all the problem, i've read about having a renault clio...not so sure now..

these are the car i'm thinking about getting....have you got any advise..
looking at getting a 2004 182 or can only afford one off these on a 2003 plate..

st 170 2003
mg zs 180 2004
gti 206 180 2003
astra 2.2 sr1

I will need the car us a everyday car,and will be doing about 10k a year.....
really like the 182 but its just the relliabilty that worry me..

all cars can have problems not only renaults..... wouldnt go for the 206 unless your a shemale. I like the ST's myself.

I'd drive them all and then see which one you prefer! Have only driven the Clio, Focus and GTi 180 out of the list, did'nt like the Peugeot at all.

Hello and welcome.Ive had my 182 a year nearly and its been great.The st is a bit mundane looking,The 180gti does'nt go as well as it looks and the other 2 i would'nt even look at

because all the little problem were sorted out by the 2003 model..

the st170 is just a booring drive! never felt fast, never felt involving. 182 was much nicer.

182 all the way, I have had no problems with mine (touch wood) but the problems people usually have are only little anyway (such as rattles)

Testdrive them all and see what you think

Same as Ian i had an 02plate 172 from new and replaced it last year with a 182 (new again) and i've had no problems with either. Dont believe the reputation of poor build quality, you might suffer a few bits of rattly trim (ive escaped both times) but nobody seems to have any major mechanical gremlins.

I have never had a french car before, bough my 182 after having had a Freelander TD4, A4, Alfa 156 and I have a Mk2 Golf GTI which I have owned for 12 years. The 182 has been as reliable as any of the above.

I have had the 182 for nearly 2 years and done 40k of mostly motorway miles with no problems at all and get 32-35mpg. The only downside I can think of is what it will be worth when I get rid of it in 12 months with 60k'ish on the clock.

I know I'm biased, but I'd go for the 182! I've not had any problems with mine so far *touch wood* and they are probably the most fun to drive. My mate had an st and it didn't seem that fast, and they look a bit boring imo, and i have another mate who had an mg, had more problems with it than i've had! And from what I've read the 180 is pretty dull to drive, not whats it's made up to be. But drive them all and decide for yourself! I'm sure you wouldn't be dissapointed with a 172/182!
