Help air con problems

  172
Hi guys, had my air con gassed in july to go to the continent. the system was completely empty but the system held pressure when when it was tested so the air con specialist went ahead and re-gassed. Now the car sat for a week whilst on holiday and when we came to drive back air con wasn't working.I didn't take it back and thought this weekend I'd have a shot myself.

Now I've used one of those sealing product with a tin of refrigerant yesterday and the system appeared to hold pressure yesterday. Today I can still hear the clutch kicking in but I tried putting the gauge on and it has dropped about 8psi. Now the outside temperature yesterday was 24degrees today 16. Does the pressure in the system g et higher with outside temp or do i still have a leak?

cheers for the help fellas

Can't find any leaks on the system when I spray it with soapy suds however I did notice slot of green residue on the underside of the compressor just on the front near the pulley.

Could this be a leak?

You sound like you have a leak.

Can you not go to a garage and pay ~£40 to have them put it on a machine? That will tell you if it can hold pressure. And ask them to stick some UV dye in too.

Also you shouldn't just Stick gas in there like that.

Is been and it held pressure but leaked out during the week. Does the green residue on the front of the compressor look like a leak

No idea mate. I will leave that to the more mechanical minded members to answer.

Did they put the UV dye in? and if so do you have a UV light you can use to see if it does indeed Glow?

The price for a decent UV lamp is silly mate. Seriously, go see someone with the kit already. Whoever recharged it should've banged a shot in anyway just in case this happens.

Like I say there does seem to be some green residue on the compressor where the pulley is.

I was hoping this would be an easy fix with aircon sealant. How wrong was i

Yeah that is likely to be PAG with UV dye leaking from the compressor but you may have other leaks to so it would be prudent to fully inspect the system.

Always replace the seals to... always!
