:HELP:Cutting out after filling with 97ron..

Alryt fellas,
Ma sisters boyfriend jus filled his mk1 1.2 clio with some 97 from tesco. He has only ever used 95 prior to this. Now his down the street swearing because it keep cutting out on him LOL Is it the petrol, or just a mechanical failure?

What's the point in putting 97 ron into a 1.2?

i put optimax in my 1.2 16v now and again, keeps the engine running smooth, and seems drive nicer when running on it

No idea why he decided to put 97 in, but he did lol
Ah well, Thanks for the replys, ill pass on the good news lol:approve:

What sort of a fcuking comment is that??? A 1.2 not good enough for 97RON?

Lol I think he meant that with the sport models they recommend you only use higher octane petrol because its a 'performance' engine, whereas for non-sport models eg 1.2/1.4 etc it isn't. also possibly there would be a greater 'difference' (if any tbh) from putting higher octane fuel in a sport engine whereas you wouldn't notice really in a 1.2 (i think?) Anyone feel free to correct me though!

It could be that the ecu is taking its time to adjust the timing for the different grade of fuel?

If he makes a habit of running it to empty, it might also be that sediment has found its way into the engine - unlikely but it does happen.

As for 97RON in a 1.2, i don't see the problem with feeding the car a better quality of fuel every now and again. To be honest, i really don't notice any difference between 95 & 97RON in my 172, but thats a whole can of worms right there.

@ben_p, yes they offer 95RON as do all petrol stations, however their Super unleaded is indeed 99RON. But it doesn't have additives like BP Ultimate (97RON) so it doesn't clean your engine as thoroughly.
