HELP - Humming noise from wheel

Humms louder as speed increases. Comes from rear drivers side wheel on my Mk3 Golf (2nd car). The wheel doesnt move if wobbled or pull to 1 side when braking but the noise becomes apparent at 30mph and louder the faster u go. No steering vibration and wheel nuts seem tight.

What is it?

Can i safely use my car for a few weeks like this?

Sounds like a fcuked wheel bearing to me. Most go on the front passenger side due to spending lots of time on roundabouts

yup, sounds like abearing, isnt the Vw a taper bearing though? jsut nip it up.

It suddenly just went though. Thought it was the road surface but has carried on since.

I thought ur wheel bearing was fine if u couldnt move the wheel by shaking it with force?

As its my Dads spare car for running the Dog about in and im not worried about fixing it.
