HELP- ouside temperature reading

Hi guys,

iv got a mk2 ph2 1.2 16v dynamic, a while ago my outside temperature reading was reading high figures, like 45 degrees C in the cold, i changed the thermometer in the bottom of the wing mirror, but still its reading high figures, about 55 degree's in this hotter weather, does anyone know what the likely problem is? and a solution? All i can think of is there is an earthing issue with it.

so thats what the little thing underneath the wing mirror is, i though it was summin to do with the Electric mirrors .

mine always reads between 38 and 40 some odd, no matter what its retarded. Someone help....pls

Im heading up to my dealer tomorrow, need to get some dodgy work repaired, so i'll ask then, see if they can shed some light on the matter.

well since i started this thread i have a new clio, and guess what, it does exactly the same thing.haha On friday we bought my brother a clio as well, and guess what, yes, you got it, does the same thing as well. Spoke to renault and they are quite sensitive to being hit etc. So iv purchased a new sensor, and will be fitting it this weekend.

So i will let you all know if i works or not

Well the only thing i would say is that about six moths ago i had a bump that cracked my wing mirror, and its worked fine for a further six months! Not that sensitive. The alternate way of looking at it is that Renault build bulletproof parts and that this is just sensitive in comparison, hmm... dont think so!

Ok, they CAN be sensitive if you wana get all picky. I offered some advice, no need to get or your high horse. What is up with this place at the moment

Calm down mate, just joking, my sarcastic comment was actually aimed at the famous french build quality! Ive been doing more research in the meantime however, and it doesnt look as if the sensor is the definitve solution, maybe a faulty connection, so maybe try that see if you can save a few quid!

All connections are ok it seems, and the sensor goes up and down with the temperature in the correct change, the scaling is just wrong. Iv got a replacement sensor, so i will try it at the weekend

Hmm well i think i'll pay a visit to the parts bin tomorrow and see what i can get, how much did you pay for the sensor if you dont mind me asking?

um, not sure to be honest, dad picked it up for me a month or so ago, so im not sure, will find out. Don't think they are cheap though

hmm, i'll try a breakers, being a poor student i cant really spend too much just now, christmas nights out tightening the purse strings this month (plus im a scottish accountancy student, so they were tight to start with!!) Cheers anyway

Mines be doing this for a few days. Just had a quick play with it, still not fixed. Placed my hander under it for af ew minutes and it said it was hotter so its working, just reading it dodgy.

lol mine sits at 55degrees c must be common problem with a clio


im sure you could get the temp thing from a scrappy for alot cheeper but a 50/50 chance that works.
