Help pls re excessive fuel consumption!

Car  2004 1.2 expression 16v
Hi all,

I was registered on this forum a couple of years ago and now I'm back, hoping that someone will be able to help me out!

My 2004 expression 1.2 16v has recently been costing me a bomb in fuel - I hadn't noticed until this evening when I've lost another couple of bars and I've only driven about 40 miles (I can usually get about 80 out of 2 bars)....

I'm sure it's not me being paranoid as it really is plummeting - does anyone know what is wrong, if anything?

What about getting one of those bottles from QVC or similar that you stick in the fuel tank - do they work?

Cheers in advance!

Could by loads of things, its definatly not right. could be a blocked air filter, when did it last have a service, could be the lambda sensor, or it could be a fuel injection system fault which will be expensive. Could be a ignition fault. Is there lots of smoke from the exhaust? can you smell petrol?

No and no to the last 2 questions ...

Due to have a service in the next month or so - it's just gone over 50k miles....

Does it sound worth bringing this forward?

(Dave you live in Leicestersh!te too!)

Always a good idea servicng the car.

Does it smell of petrol etc?

No smell of petrol - although the brakes seem to be squeeking a lot recently! Not sure it's connected although the service will help that too I suppose....

Turned out I had a broken carboniser cap that was causing my poor fuel consumption, something that is only checked if asked to. Didnt realise until the engine was being ripped out

stop flooring it lol....alternativly complain to brown about petrol prices again £0.98 here for 95 octaine
