help? registering a cat D.

Car  RenaultSport clio 172 mk2
Hello,

I've been thinking of buying an 172 cup with minor damage. The car is a reg cat D. Seeing I am not really familiar with UK registration I wonder what needs to be done In order for me to be able to register it in Holland.

I allready read most information given on the VOSA and DVLA websites but haven't been able to work it out.

A step by step approach would do the trick.....;)

Thanks in advance for your help.

Jack

I dont think that because its a CATD it will be any different to register over there. Although i many be wrong.

There's plenty of Cups for sale, why not just go for a sound one?

At a rough guess maybe money?? Maybe wants to use ot at the ring... so previous accident damage is not an issue.

The car indeed is for rally purposes.

I bought a car from another country before but that wasn't near as complicated as it seems to be the case for UK vehicles.

Doesn't cat D means the registration is incomplete? If so, what needs to be done to get it fixed?

Thanks,

Jack

Nope, the registration will be fine, its only on Cat C cars that they need to go through a VOSA test or whatever its called.

D will be fine.

cat D's all you need to get it back on the road is tax and MOT obviously you will need the v5 - most cat d's come with them - Cat D's are treated as uneconomical to fix, this is due to dealers charging the earth to fix them !

cat C's need a VIC check to make sure all the paperwork is in correct form, like engine numbers/chassis tallying to paper worketc - Cat C's usually have chassis damage so unless you have a jig it would be uneconomical on a DIY jobby.

Also there are a few companies open round the UK that give your cat-d a really good look over, check welding, safety factors and the usual stuff, if it passes the CAT D is wiped clean.

i dont like this atall, this means you could see a nice mercedez hpi and it come fine, little do you know its once been upside down on the M1 lol
