Help with Mac movie creating

hi guys i need a little help,

for a uni project i need to create a 10 min video, so film it and edit it all together.
how ever on my mac i dont have imovie so im not sure what free program to get to be able to edit it all together.
once finished i will need to be able to play it on a windows computer as well
