Parked at an airport for first 4 months.

Erm, no problems specifically.

Things that have needed changing:

Tyres obviously at about every 7-10 k depending on trackdays etc
Standard Disks and pads replaced at 35,000 and then the uprated ones replaced at 60,000
New Calipers at 60,000
New Clutch at 60,000
New Suspension (springs and dampers) done at 35,000 as it seemed like a good plan.
Cat went at 28,000 miles replacement was removed after about 3 months when the exhaust went also.
I had a temporary exhaust on from team griffin racing, and then put a supersprint on.
All belts (72,000 service done at 60,000) Job done by GDI - very impressed with their work and helpfulness
Leak under passenger seat when new fixed
Oh, have braided hoses for it now too.
Done lots of trackdays in it, has performed well.

35,000 service cost about £1400 with new uprated disks and pads and new suspension and springs.
60,000 service cost about £1000 with new clutch, all belts and a general overhaul of the car.

SO overall, reasonably happy.

  2008 Golf GTI Edition 30

He probably wont sell, I guess he will turn it into a full time track car and buy an everyday car as a replacement.

who said anything about selling? LOL

I want to keep it, get headwork & cams etc... , return it back to some sense of being a road car and buy a cliocup racer with a sequential box put my engine in the the racer and make that a road legal RHD for having as a toy, and put the standard 172 racer engine in mine (btw is is just a standard 172 engine) with a manual box.

To say you thrash it youve done well. I had my tyres replaced after 5-6000 miles (no track days) and the guy mentioned that i need some newm pads. I also managed to kill the disks on my previos car within6000 miles but these had already done 20000 on my other car. Cant imagine ill get more than 40000 out of the clutch either. You lost me on your plans with the track car but wot i could make out sounds good. Cant imagine selling mine yet.
It has 20500 on the clock and id need 2 cars to get something better than the cup. Id need a runabout and a westfield/caterham but although both of those could do the job better the clio just does it all very well. Gets me to work in the morning. Gets my round the country lanes. Gets me home in 1 peice.

:-D

I will keep the cup for about another 12 months, and hopefully do headwork / cams/ re-map.

then buy a clio cup racer (caged, sequential box)

swap the engines (from my modified one to the racer and V.V)

then put the sensible seats back in mine, the panels and use that as a run about and use my modified engine in the cup racer as a road legal toy after I convert it to RHD and get it with lights etc.

kin ell mines on 17k (just over a year old) pads are 50% - 60% worn, bought some replacements and then didnt need to fit them in the end

jeses jonnyboy, mines a year old, and i done like 33k mileage wise, pads r worn to about same as yours(im a lot easeir on brakes nowadays) just replaced original back tyres at 32k, front ones went at 18k, but i tend not to drive like a tw*t all the time now

You havnt got the highest milage one Ive seen one with 110k on it.

There is at least 1 dci out there 2002 reg with 60k on it and that was months ago.

But thats still good going.

Converting a racer into RHD and making it road legal wont be easy, be better IMO to buy an older 172 and use that as a day to day car and keep the cup for the track

Mine is two years old and Ive just done 50k miles. Running like a dream and I think it is the main reason I ran a 6.35s 0 - 60 at TRAX

( Im still hampering on about it!!!!)

  172 cup,s2 rs turbo

i know this isnt relevant but ive had a phase 1 172 in at work with well over 120k on it. went like f**k as well.

  Weeman sucks ****

Just coming up to 32000 miles in mine, only new pads and one set of tyres all round which isn;t bad really. Although next month will sting my sky rocket as I need discs all round...so pads aswell!

Oh, had to have a bonnet respray to. A little irellevent but sh*t happens.
