Hit a kerb!

  Suzuki Ignis Sport
Was going really slow in the snow yesterday, and the corners quite tight. The car didn't go round (understeer?) and I went up the kerb, luckily the kerb is an old one so it's really flat. Wasn't going fast at all, maybe 10mph? The car seems fine, I mean the tracking was off to start with so it might have just knocked that off a bit more? Waiting for all this snow to disappear to have some new tyres fitted! The car drives normally, have I been lucky this time? I did hit it at an angle, but barely felt it as I went up it. Look forward to your replies :)

I have done this. A little bit worse than you though mate. About 15 into a raised kerb and it damaged my sub-frame so had to have a new one.

Check the wheel, all suspension components and the sub-frame. Ideally you want it up on a ramp to inspect.

HTH.

I'll be taking it to get some new tyres next week, so maybe they should be able to tell whether anythings bent or not? When your subframe was bent, did you feel it was bent (as in, pulling really bad to the sides?)

Yes mate. I drove it 5 miles back from where I had the accident and it pulled quite bad.

If your's is only slight could just be the tracking but best to be safe than sorry. My wheel was unuseable as well so check them well for buckles.

I hope it's just the tracking. I actually think it's driving normally but brains are really powerful things. They make you believe things are broken, when they aren't!

Mention everything when you take it to the garage.

Get the tracking done and it'll feel brand new again as long as there are no other problems. Just to let you know sub-frames direct from renault are around £300+ so I hope it's not anything more for our sake.

If your going to go up a kerb turn the wheel towards it so it rolls up rather than mashing it sideways, that will stop bending things in 90% of the cases. That's from years of thinking I'm a rally driver when the snow comes down.

I tried to hit it sock on, but was on a sharp corner so yeah! Rather hit a curb than the concrete street name sign :p

Had it checked out today, nothings bent, just needed a new track rod end which has now been fitted. Now, new tyres and tracking to be done!
