Check that it's not a heatshield. Mine fell onto the exhaust and sounded horrific at idle. So I ripped it off and put it in the bin.

What John said. Check that first, its a big one. Mines still on but prepared for it to fall off anytime soon

Yer alot of people said similar things to me, but that's what i wanted to do.

If i got all the parts from Honda it would of cost 300/350 then pay another garage labour etc so it would of been over £500. I could of got a 3rd party manifold for £100ish, but i wanted genuine. Could of got a second hand one, but i wanted new and then would still have to get gaskets and bits anyways.

Welcome to the hell that is Honda ownership. I cannot wait for it to be over

To be honest, im pretty happy with it all considered. I have owned many Honda's mainly older ones and they have been alright. So long as i just carry out servicing etc then hopefully this one will be good to me.

Just spent another £230 on genuine parts.

Service kit - Oil filter, Oil, Air Filter, Fuel Filter, Pollen Filter, Sump Washer, Oil Filter Removal Tool, 3 Litres MTF Fluid, Wipers and a funnel lol.

That should give me enough to do over the weekend as well as rear brakes, sort the exhaust noise and put the car back together after sorting the leak. At least once this is done i shouldn't have many other big spends.

@Danith @Djw John Confirmed it was the heat shield. Had a look underneath and it was hanging on the exhaust. Managed to attach it again so hopefully it will last for a bit longer and i can always remove/replace at a later date.

I have put the rear door cards back in after satisfying myself that the leak has been sorted. Just need to put the rear seats and carpets in, then service and rear brakes.

I really need to find the Honda double din fascia, but can't seem to find a genuine one anywhere!

Winner.

Yeah I snapped this one up within 10 mins of it going up. They do occasionally pop up tho on fb or ebay

Ideal. As I say I whipped mine off with no negative effects so don't waste time or money trying to reattach it!

Mine is very different from yours right enough, it was free and has cost £120 in 18 months/12k so I'm running mine as a proper shed!

My day has just improved! I took a chance and spoke to Cox Motor Parts and gave them the part number, Wayne was able to locate the fascia for me! I will have one on Tuesday! It's expensive at £134, but i will be much happier with a genuine Honda one.

@Danith can you let me know what else i need to fit the stereo.

I know i need the cage, but the one that comes with the stereo should be fine right?

The connects2 parts i think i need is, plus a new DAB aerial.

Jesus, what does this owe you now?

This thread is reading like something I'd do then sell it straight after once it's perfect. ?

Haha that would be my normal procedure, spend a load of money on a car then sell it and loose all the money lol.

I try not to think about what it owes and if it didn't need the manifold i would of been alright because its just service and brakes. I'm only changing the stereo as i hate not having my music/bluetooth etc.

Long morning and afternoon sadly no pictures as I was busy working away.

Carried out the full service so air, fuel, oil, oil filter, gearbox oil, pollen filter, wiper blades with all genuine parts.

I would love to meet the cretin that changed the last fuel filter as it was so tight, I had to get it to a garage so it could be undone!

Then changed the rear brakes, luckily enough didn't have any issues. Calipers went back in and the sliders were all free so new discs and pads there.

Primed up the fuel filter, I was a bit worried as it says to do it on a full tank, but it started on the button sounded lovely. Took it for a drive and feels and sounds even nicer now, job worth doing. Best of all no error codes or anything.

So jobs remaining:

Fit rest of interior, mainly rear seats and a bit of carpet.

Get a top up for the oil.

Fit the stereo.

Replace tyre due to nail in the side causing slow puncture. The tyre is bloody two months old!

Alignment.

The point of a cheap car is to spend as little as possible!

You went down the wrong route with Honda. If you wanted jap should’ve went for a Toyota.

Nice car though

I don't think anything i have done, apart from the Manifold was expensive. Just servicing with good quality parts and the rear brakes. Every car needs maintenance, the stereo is just a luxury, especially as im going to Edinburgh this week and its a good 6+ hours away.

Doing things on the cheap just doesn't apply to me, my brain doesn't allow me to bodge or do things on the cheap and i don't think that's a bad thing.

I have owned at least 8 other Honda's and never really had an issue, would of ended up in an Auris or something if i went Toyota.

I get this.

Mine was only ever supposed to be a beater and the S2K the cherished car. Hasn’t turned out that way mind. The S2 has done 40 miles in 20 months and I’ve blown hundreds on replacement parts for a worthless civic. I’ve got issues.

its just the way it goes, if i want the car to be reliable and work for years then i don't mind putting a bit of money in at the start to makes sure mechanically its all good. Which it now is so hopefully no further issues.

You’ll always find stuff to buy/improve. It’s a never ending cycle.

Only way I’ll stop is if I buy a brand new car which is perfect...Where’s the fun in that though?

I gave up smoking years ago and drink a couple of nights a year so have to spend my money on something.

Exactly, even a new car i bet i would find things that end up annoying me.

Good on you for stopping smoking, i'm trying now and its tough.

Anyways just got the firmware update ready, going to have a quick snack then crack on. hopefully a good update shortly!

Nice! Are you attempting the install in the dark?

Giving up smoking was the hardest thing I ever did. I still get cravings now, 5 years on. I am partial to the odd vape though but try to limit it to the rare occasions I go out on the tiles.

Dam I have been defeated.

I did all the hard work of getting the old stereo out, I ran the wires for dab aerial and mic. Plugged it in upgraded the firmware ran a test on DAB all good. Sadly I can't get the stereo to attach to the cage I got. I didn't order the one @Danith linked me I got a different one and that's what's screwed me. So In the end I had to stop and leave it all unplugged untill I sort another cage.

So thanks to some help from @Danith i figured out how the brackets fit to the stereo. I will put it in on my lunch break i think. Just a couple of photos of how i ran cables etc and how it stands currently lol. Just ran the DAB aerial and mic along the factory wiring into the stereo area, wasn't too bad of a job.

I can now offer lots of advice for anyone else doing this in an FN!

Looks good that mate! Was the pillar trim easy to remove in the end?

My facia arrived this morning. Looks perfect.

Quick question mate, if you don't mind...Which cage did you purchase off eBay? Did a cage come with the head unit meaning you only used the brackets and release clips from the ebay cage or did you use the whole lot?

Sorry for all the questions.

My headunit came with a cage, but it was too big for the Honda surround as it only takes 103mm cages and even then I had to trim a little and it was tight. I used all the brackets and stuff that came with the headunit but because it's so tight it's probably never going to come back out lol would of been good to trim a bit more. Try and get a cage that's not riveted on the outside!

Ha! When you say trim do you mean the facia or cage? I’m guessing you used the brackets and screws that came with the eBay cage?

Fascia unfortunately. If you have a different style of cage it might work out better.

Drive to Edinburgh was uneventful and the car didn't have any problems. However it is going back to Honda tomorrow as there has been a coolant leak since they replaced the manifold. I hope its simple and doesn't end up escalating...
